The only incident of note on the voyage waa the unexpected fresh water bath of a couple of well known Individuals, one of them an attache of the News and Herald offioe. As the boat was nearing the wharf many of the pas sengers wishing to reach terra firms jumped on to ous of the wharf logs, and one of them not being sure footed slipped, and in bis eagerness to save himself, seized the man nearest to him and both were pre cipitated into the water, and after'ducking came to the surface puffing and blowing, one of them minus hia bat and the other his spectacles. Fortunately there were aeveaal persona near by who helped the drooping men out of the water. After all fears were dissipated the bystanders had considerable amuse ment at the expense ot the unfortunates. ‘ Departure of Steamships.—The steamships San Salvador, Captain Atkina, and Tybee, Captain Crowell, for New York, and the Pioneer, Captain Hoxie, for Philadelphia, all having lull freights and a large num ber of passengers, sailed on Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The steamship Pioneer, of the new Philadel phia line, we are glad to state, had all the freight she could carry, and a good compliment oi passengers, which is a good indication that a line of first-class steamers between hero and Philadelphia, with such enterprising agents as Messrs Hunter A Gamell to look after their interests, will pay as well as a line to any other Northern port. There have been several lines established between the two cities heretofore; but, for the waut of proper spirit and patronage by our merchants, they were allowed to die out, which we hope will not be the case with the new line estab lished, the steamers comprising which are equal in accommodation for passengers and carrying capacities to any others leaving this port. Minis, Mrs 31 Inspection of Quarantine Hospitals.—Among the passengers by the steamer Cosmopolitan, Captain A. C. Crocker, which arrived from Hilton Head last evening, were Drs. Sim and Hector, who are on a tou r of inspection to the various quarantine Hospitals, with a view of seeing and obtaining information relative to the condition of the various hospitals; also, for locat ing the proper anchorage for the quarantine ships. State Liquor Tax. — Attention is directed to the ad vertisement of Mr. James J. McGowan, Tax Collector of Chatham county, annouuciug his readiness to re ceive roturus of sales of liquor in this county, in ac cordance with the requirements of the law oi March 31st, 18GC. New Baltimore Line of Steamers —The steam- John Gibson, which arrived here on Saturday ing, and will sail this afternoon, belongs to the :t* l»ne of steamers recently established between i-rc and this city. The Gibson is the sister i the L. C. Knight, of the same line, having -j baiii at the same time, and is iu every particular ... ite of tiiat vessel. The luli cargo brought by ihbsou is encouraging, proving, as it does, that . r -'li. ru people are beginning to do that which . 1 have done long ago, viz: patronize Balti- i- :ty which, by acts more potent than words, .-: weu her sympathy with the South. Baltimore- ■ ti-r r.oble courso deserves as well since the war, ■ is entitled to the patronage of the South, even at -a -mill sacrifice of pecuniary interest. But our • hum-.r. not called upon to make this sacrifice, -- ti.-. ia-.i that goods of every descriptiou, cer- xbI.v <--rrything in the liquor and grocery line can ured in or transported by the way of Balti- s cheaply, as safely, and as expeditiously as in c .-.her city, or by any other route. So can mer- uadize be sent to Philadelphia, or the West, via a: a. i e, as cheaply certainly as by the way of New . The increased f abilities for trade between Bal- - •= and Savannah are equal to those of any other ■ -t-.m city, there being at present between Balti- *’ 1 th;s place, t wo lines, of two steamers, each ■a making weekly trips. The vessels have - - lur succeeded in obtaining good freights and v -iurc of passengers, and it remains with our r fi'iis in general to say whether the patronage, so — extended he retofore. shall be continued and -:.:;:..rmcr casc-d. A Mo si* the passengers by tbe steamship San Salva dor, for New York, on Saturday last, was Captain Boutelle of the Revenue Cutter Bibb. On tbe San Salvador passing the Bibb, which was lying below Fig Island ligbt, a parting salute was fired by the Bibb. Steameb W. G. Gibbons.—Tbe steamer Two Bovs, Captain Daniels, which left with pumps, Ac., for tbe raising of the steamer W. G. Gibbons, returned yes terday, being unable to accomplish anything on ac count of the high stage of the river. From New York.—The steamship Herman Living ston, Captain Baker, from New York in sixty-two hours, arrived below at an early hour yesterday morn ing, but was prevented from reaching her wharf until about four o’clock in the afternoon, on account of low tide. From Charleston.—The steamer Pilot Boy. Capt. Payne, from Charleston, arrived at her wharf at an early hour on Saturday evening. False Alarm.—The alarm of fireon Saturday night, abont eight o’clock, proved to be more of an alarm than fire, as we have been unable to find any person who could locate it.
