As the drayman had removed the greater portion of the rubbish from West nouir ■ :j ry street to a point nearer the canal, which was still Aithiu the city limits, it was evident that he uuder- ' ud the instructions of the Superintendent of Streets lid Lanes, and by not having it removed outside the Itv limit; he was fined S10. M. Russell—Thomas Oswell, for beating his wife severely was committed to jail for the offence of assault and bottery. Rose Barrou, (col.) charged with choking a negro girl named Frances Franklin m the market, was com mitted to jail for assault and battery. Frances Frank lin was before tho Mayor Monday morning and fined for insulting Bose Barron in the market Saturday af ternoon, and said, when arrested by the police, that she/would have revenge : but it appears that instead of getting revenge, she got a choking, having come out of the affair second best. Before Justice Jno. A. Staley—A WTit of possession case was tried yesterday between Allen 8. Izard and Frederick Krenson, for the recovery of a flat-boat. From the evidence it was shown that the flat was in Mr. Izard’s possession in 1863, and from that time un til the occupation of the city by the Federal army. The flat was, therefore, ordered to be turned over to Mr. Izard. State vs. Martha Brown, ;col.) charged with the of fence of assault aud battery. Tho charge having been clearly proven against her, she was turned over to the City Court for trial. Suspicious Characters—William Campbell, a white boy, aud James Henry and Isaac Bagner, both colored, were arraigned before the Mayor’s Court, charged with being drunk and disorderly and fight ing on Falim street. One of the party pretended to have lost his hat, the better to facilitate their design, which was to stop whoever they met and demand the lost hat. and then, if they thought the party flush, to knock him down and relieve him of his money. They made an attack on a colored man employed iu watching some lumber near the canal, who drew a pistol on them to keep them at bay, while he backed up to Fahm street to get where the gas lamps were. They still kept closing in upon lnm, evidently trying to surround him. A colored woman, who had heard the conversation of these parties a short time before, as they passed up Fahm street, had informed some colored men. who went to the assistance of the col orea man. Several policemen having come up, the white boy, with the two negroes, was taken in custody and carried to the police barracks. One of the witnesses, a colored woman, testified that she heard one of them say, as they passed her house, something about the three of them being able to knock a man down who had $15b. The parties were each fined by His Honor $10 and costs, or thirty days in jail. The white boy was a,hard looking customer, and bids fair to represent this county in Milledgeville Penitentiary. Knock Down in Bay Lane.—Yesterday morning a difficulty arose between two parties in Bay lane, in rear of the Custom House, in reference to the loan of five dollars, which resulted in one of the parties beiDg knockon%own. It appears that parry No. 1 desired to borrow five dollars, wh ich party No. 2 re fused to tend. Party "No. 1 Itlcu siild, “I have loaned you money at different times to buy material for your business,” which party No. 2 denied. Party No. 1 then said. “You had better say V am a d—d liar.” No. 2 concurring in that opinion, be received a blow from the fist oi No. l on the back of his right ear, which staggered him and made a pretty bad bruise. The party who struck the blow then walked off, while No. 2 proceeded to the mat tigtrate’s office and had two warrants issued in his fa vor. one ior assault and battery, and the other a peace warrant. Personal.—We were favored yesterday with a visit from our old and esteemed friend Simon Rose, Esq., of the Macon Messenger. Air Rose is, we believe, the oldest editor and newspaper proprietor in the State. He was among the first to advocate the intro duction of railroads in Georgia, and thirty years ago exerted hie influence to inaugurate that great system of internal 1 improvements which he has lived to see productive of such incalculable benefits to all sections of onr State. We also had the pleasure of a call last evening from Mr. Chas. E. Dyke, a distinguished member of the editorial corps of Florida, who has been associated for many years with the Tallahassee Floridian, a paper widely known for its ability and usefulness. Improvements at the Police Barraces.—The apartment occupied at the harracka by the men, not being sufficiently ventilated to render it comfortable or healthy, especially where so large a number of men sleep in the same room, it has recently been supplied with four large ship ventilators wfiich project through the roof. These, in addition to the ventilation received by the doors, one of which is at each end ot the room, and the small elevated sky-light roof will make the sleeping room of tte men more comfortable as welj as healthy. The apartments have all received a thorough white worthing, and shows that those in com. mand of the police force, aa well as the b arracks, have an eye to proper sanitary regulations. Disturbances in Yamacraw.—We are informed that there wag a general row in Yamacraw yester day between a party of nine colored men, which, but for tile prompt interference of the authorities, might have resulted seriously to some of the parties en gaged in it. About seven o’clock last night a row occurred near the corner of Harrison and Falun streets between a large party of colored boys and several white boys. parties used clubs, knives and axes, but we learn that none of the combatants were injured, both par ties having beat a hasty retreat on the approach of the police. Accident to thk Steamer North Point.—We have been kindly furnished with a copy of the follow ing dispatch, received yesterday by the agents of the steamer North Point in this city: Baltimore, June 18.—Messrs. La Eocfie, IFesf <£• Daniels :—Steamer North Point arrived to-day, with her shaft broken. She was met and towed into port by the Fannie. The Fannie sails for Savannah to night. J- B- Andrews. We learn that owing to the mishap to the North Point and the consequent delay of her consort, the Fannie, the latter will not sail for Baltimore till Sun day next, 21th inst. Recovery of Stolen Goods.—A short time since an entrance was effected at night, through one of the lane windows attached to the store of A . C. Lomelino, southeast comer of Bull street and Congress street lane, and aeveral hundred dollars’ worth of goods stolen therefrom. Yesterday morning three negroes, William RoyaU, Osceola Williams and James Richard son, upon whom some of the stolen articles were found, were brought before J ustice Staley, who, after an investigation of the case, committed the prisoners to jail, to answer to the charge of larceny at the next term of the Superior Court. Superior Court Tt^only case tried before the Superior Court yesterday was that of Mary E, Schaf fer vs. John A. Schaffer, action for a divorce. The trial occupied the Court the whole day. The jury who tried the case were taken from the first panel of the grand Jury. After retiring to the jury room, they remained ont but a. short time, when they returned with a verdict in fkvor of the respondent, based on the ground or adultery of the libellant. Julian Hart- ridge, Esq., appeared as counsel for respondent, and Captain Geo. A. Mercer as counsel for the libellant. Schooner Nadob.—This schooner finished taking Ont at the crane on Miller’s wharf yesterday the four freight cars brought by lier frem Philadelphia for the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad, and dropped qp to Messrs. Hunter 4 Gammell’s wharf, to finish discharging her cargo. We are requested by* Mrs. VeUstich to state that berhnsband died on Saturday evening, Instead of Sunday morning, as previously stated.
