Tbe Excursion to Tzbue. -The excursion of the
Lizzy Baker to Tybee cn Wednesday was one of the
pleasantest events of the season, reminding us of the
good old times before "the cruel war" began. There
were a large number of passengers, including many
Savannah ladies and a number of our up-country visi
tors with their families, all of whom seemed to enjoy
the trip exceedingly. The afternoon wasjbright and
pleasant, and the sea breeeze bracing and refresh
ing. Captain King, aided by Colonel Jo. Klnchley
and hia gentlemanly staff, managed everything
with a degree of propriety that ensured the
comfort and enjoyment of their guests. To the
strangers on board, the fort and batteries, obstructions,
Ac., were objects of much interest, and Major Bar-
ledy, who had commanded at Fort Jackson and tbe
batteries in tbe vicinity, with other officers who had
seen service in defence of the river front, were con-
localities rendered historical by the events of the war.
atantly in requisition for information in regard to the
The ran was just far enough out to get a touch of
the ground swell, so inexpressibly curious in its effect
upon landsmen, but tbe gallant 'Captain seeing many
of tbe bright faces around him beginning to wear
a serious expression, took compassion on them,
and turned the head of tbe Lizzy homeward.
She was soon in smooth water again, and the
faces assumed their wcnted sprightlinces, and the
carmine tinge returned to cheeks that a few minutes
before were colorless. Returning, the Interesting
river panorama was reviewed, and many romlniscen
ces elicited, in the enjoyment of which pleasant inter
course and tbe fresh evening breeze, the time passed
swiftly as the Lizzy, which was soon at her wharf,
not an incident having ocourred to mar the enjoyment
of the occasion.
We would be pleased if such afternoon steamboat
excursions, conducted ib the same manner, were more
frequent during the sultry months. We feel confidant
that they would be liberally patronized and greatly en
joyed by the beet class of our citizens and their fami
lies, to whom they would afford pleasant and healthful
recreation.
Psrmwtation.—The evening of June 2*1 im made
the o6caaion of a pleasant social gathering at the hoe*
pliable residenoe of OoL and Mrs. A. Wilbur, Jones
street. The immediate objafit of those who assembled
ynt to do honor to one who, by his untiring industry,
bad done*much to cultivate the voices of those whoae
office it la to render the musical portion of public wor
ship. Those oPui whoae privilege It has been to listen
to the sweet voices of the children of tjhe Sunday
School in their “songs of ptaiae," will not wonder
that the Trustees and others desired to expreae in
tangible form their appreciation of the labors of 8. W.
(Reason, who for some years has devoted himself
With patient zeal, inspired by a love of his sacred art,

A beautiful Silver Tea Service, composed of six
pieces, and bearing the following inscription, “Pre

gation of the Independent Presbyterian Church, as a

cess in improving the Music of the Church

having been prepared by those interested, was
placed upon the table. The Pastor, Trustees,
Choir and a few guests having “dropped in,” Mr.
Jno. W. Anderson, in behalf of the donors, in a
few words of Christian love and sympathy, pre
sented it to Mr. Gleason, who, overcome by surprise
and gratitude, found eloquent words .of thanks to ex
press hia feelings. Referring to those who had la
bored with him, he attributed much of his success to
their co-operation, and promised that the rich and
beautiful gift ahonld be transmitted to his children’s
chlldrsn.
The ceremony over and the articles examined and
pronounced good, the company repaired to the supper
room, where a rich feast was waiting.
Those who Were fortunate enough to be present will
not soon forget tbe social intercourse, the sweet song
of tbe Choir, and other features of the evening.
Seldom has a more beautiful gift been more worth
ily bestowed. Gobst.
Passing Counterfeit Money.—Beer Goldman,
one ol tbe party who was arrested at an auction store
a short time since charged with picking the pocket of
s woman, and was discharged, there not being sufil-
uent proof to convict him, was again arrested yester
day morning, charged with passing counterfeit cur
rency on a number of store keepers in this city. He
was taken before Justice Staley, and held under bond*
for bis appearance before tbe Superior Court, to an
swer to tbe above charge. Goldman after being re
leased on bail, had not been at liberty more than a few
hours, when he was again taken in custody and con-
▼ayed to the police barracks for the saute offence. It
appesrs that after being released ho west down to tbe
f erry wharf, it is thought with the intention of going
over to Screven's ferry. While waiting on tbe wharf,
several boys had congregated about him and com
menced annoying him. Goldman atartod to go off
but accidentally stumbled over a log, when a large

They were picked np by ,. n by, -u~ w-..a-
sd them to a second party for examination, when it
was found that they were all counterfeit change bills,
of tbe denomination of fifty cents. Goldman was im
mediately arrested and conveyed to the police bar
racks. There is no doubt that there Is some other
party interested in tbe paesing of lb is counterfeit mouey
with Goldman, as he was thoroughly searched when
first arrested and all the bogus money he had in his
possession taken from him. In less than four hours
he Is again arrested and a quantity of counterfeit
money found in his possession. The bills arc all now.
So persistent and indefatigable a rogue should ho pun
ished to the full oxtent of the law.
Examination —Lucy Colvin and Jano Floyd, both
colored, were examined boforo Justice Staley yester
day afternoon, charged with ths offence of larceny
trom the bouse. It appears that the colored girl, Jane
Floyd, had been in the employ of Mr. Locwentbal, and
and she had at various times stolen dry goods and
gold and silver coin, amounting In all to over one
thousand dollars. Several pieces of the goods stolen
were traced to where tbe colored girl bad sold them,
bnt abe was unwilling to give any account of tbe pro
ceeds derived from the sals of tbe stolen articles, or
the money which she had taken. On examination of
the case, there waa no proof to convict Jane Floyd of
any complicity in the theft. She waa, therefore, dis
charged. The proof against the other womati, Lucy
Colvin, being poaltive, she was committed to jail, in
default of hail, to await her trial before the next Janu
ary term of tbe Superior Court.
In Arbitration—The arguments in tbe cuse of the
Augusta and Savannah Railroad vs. the Central Rail
road and Banking Company, in arbitration, whloh
have been delivered within the past two days at the
Court House before a board of referees, consisting of
Hon. Ebenezer Starnes, of Augusta, Hon. E. A. Nes
bitt, of Macon, and Hon. W. B. Fleming, of this city,
was concluded yesterday by Hon. Tbomaa E. Lloyd,
one of the attorneys for the Augusta and Savannah
Railroad Company, and the case submitted to the
referees for their decision. The case, we learn, in
volves the payment of rent to the Augusta and Savan
nah Railroad from June, 1864, to June, 1866. Hon.
Yhoe. E. Lloyd and Hon. Henry Jackson appeared as
counsel for the Augusta and Savannah Railroad, and
Hon. Howell Cobb for the Central Railroad.
The Griffin Star.—We had the pleasure oi meet
mg amon g the oxcursionlste from the up oountry yes
terday, our friend Archy Speights, Esq., one of the
publishers and editors of the “Griffin Star,” one of
tbe most spirited and ably conducted papers in the in
terior of the State. Mr. Speights will remain a few
days in Savannah, with a view to promote the businese
interests of his paper. The Star has a wide circulation
m a section of'the State from which a large amount
of trade comes to Savannah, and those of our mer
chants who desire to make their houses known in that
section will find the Star a deserving and influential
medium for their advertisements.
Fine Peaches.—Our next-door neighbor,|Mr. C. W.
Thompson, sent us, yesterday, a sample of some flue
peaches, shipped by him to New Fork. They were
from the plantation of Mr. Moses, at 'Columbus, well
knowu aa a fruiterer and planter. Mr. Thompson is
bis forwarding agent In Savannah, and will have con
signments of fruit, Ac., during the whole summer, to
dispose of here or at the North. We hope tbe ship
ment# will rescb here regularly, as. yesterday, auffl-
< iently near our dfoner hour to suable us to apart
practically of the quality.
Columbia Square Gbocebv Stobe.—Messrs. Phi-
lip Callapan A Co., advertise their Grocery Store, in
Columbia Square, in another column. Both members
of the firm have e long steamboat experience, and
extensive acquaintance on most of the boats running
between Savannah and Northern cities, greatly facili
tating their supply from the beet markets.
Mayob’h Court.—Thomas Ferable was charged with
improper conduct, disorderly in a store on Market
square. In consequence of Ferable’-s being a stranger
in the city, and in consideration of his promising to do
better in future the case was dismissed.
John Brsnnan, drunk and lying in the streets, was
fined only $2, in consequence of his being a stranger
in the city.
Robert (colored), charged with improper conduct-
abusing and attempting to a colored man in the
market; also with resisting tbe policeman making the
arrest, was fined $5 for the abusive language used
and $5 for resisting the policeman.
Henry Stephens (colored), charged with being drunk
and lying in the streets. The prisoner acknowledged
that he had been drunk, and stated that he had been
worklDg h ard, and that a few drinks which he had
taken overcame him. He asked for leniency, assur.
jng his Honor it should be his last offence. Fined $2
and costs. ,
Charles Chettings, (colored) charged with Improper
conduct and disorderly in the streets. The policeman
who made tbe arrest stated that he heard four shots
fired In succession, on Wednesday night, near the
corner of Jefferson and Bryan streets, and on proceed
ing to the locality whero the shots were fired, hs saw
the prisoner and another negro running up Jefferson
towards Bay street in pursuit of some boys. The
prisoner slated that tbe pistol was not fired by him,
and several negro men who were up in the third story
of a building whore there la a negro billiard room
came forward and testified in the prisoner's behalf,
stating that they were certain that be was not the man
who fired the shots, notwithstanding they were more
than one hundred and fiftg yards from where the
shots were fired, and up in the third story of a build
ing, while the parties in the street were standing in
the shade of the buildings adjacent. His Honor, after
a full investigation of tbe case, could find no positive
proof against tho prisoners as regards the firing of
the pistol, but it had been proven that be was in
company with the person who tired the shots, and
had in hia possession a much more murderous
weapon than a pistol, in the shape of a largo oak feller
taken probbaly from the wheel of a very large wagon.
Ha had it slung on to a string, and there is no doubt
that hia intentions were to use it upon tbe parties
they were in pursuit of. Having been found in bad
company, and having a large billy in hia possession,
he was fined five dollare and coats.
Levi Danielle, colored, was charged with improper
conduot, sleeping on a box in the streets. The pris
oner etated that he worked at a mill on the Central
Railroad. Ho had Just arrived in tbe city on Wednes
day evening, and intended returning in tho morning'
Being unacquainted in the city he thought fie would
spend tbe nigbt on a box. In consequence of tbe
statement made by tbe priaouer, he waa let off with a
fine of one dollar.
Mabsden's Asiatic Cholera Cube.—This prepara
tion baa gained a high reputation in Europa aa a sure
remedy for Asiatic cholera and all disorders of tbe
bowels. It will be seen by tho advertisement in
another column, that Mr. T. W. Marsdcu has estab
lishes e laboratory is, Vew York the manufacture
of tnc medicine from the original racipe, and is pre
pared, through bla agents, to place it within tho reach
of the peoplo, in gntlclpatlon of tho appearance of the
much dreaded Asiatic scourge. Mr. J. Llppmau,
druggist, is agent for the sale of the medicine in this
city. _
Wc heard a few days since that one of tba new
comers who have gone into planting on an oxtenilvo
scale In tki* region, had paid his colored laborers off,
partly in valueless Jewelry, trlnkots, Ac. Having ex
hausted hie stock, cue of tho parties concerned bus
gone North, to replenish it, und expects to be hack in
tirao to meet tho nonpayment. In tho moantime the
negroes have become dissatisfied, and many of thorn
threaten to leavo without fulfilling their contract.
Mr. O. F. Webster, Agent of tho National Express
Company, will accept onr thanks for a handsome pre
sent of delicious peaches; also for lsto Richmond pa

fancy some other style he can anit your taate in the

Speaking of hats, we would suggest to persons who
wear palm hats or straw hats on steamboat excursions
to be sure to have a cable or halliard of some sort at
tached, or they (the hats, not the wearers) may get
overboard.
Committed.—Jackson Green, (colored,) charged

Justice Staley, who, after a careful investigation of the
