A scheme has been devised to substitute gold notes in plaOa of gold, as answering all ibe purposes of that metal for currency, with drawing all the greenbacks, and “that here after nothing should partake of the natuie of legal tender except either the standard coin itself or the gold notes which are actually represented by coin on deposit in tho Xu- j tional Treasury.” It would be desirable to have some substitute foi specie which would preserve U9 from those fluctuations in the value of gold by which all other values are affected.
