The Three Grace*.

To ueatle in tlie heart;
And all he sends is beet for t*-

my sweet bird.
J j er flutter, feint nor toil,
TTnouRh many a mocking word
Thine upward flight aaaail;
Ere long tlie starry hearene wifl ope,
And crown with joy my patient hope.
CHARITY.
Flow gently, little stream,
Beneath a burning sky.
Spread gladness like a gleam
Of mercy from God’s eye.
Tiiougb parched the land; one touch from thee
May quench that thirst, O, Charity!
hlfe 9 s Sunset.
Where are you going so fast, old man.
Where are you goiug so fast?
There’s a valley to cross, and a nver to ford.
There’s a clasp of the hand and a partiug word,
An«l a tremulous sigh fbr the past, old man,
The beautiful vanished past!
The road has been rugged and rough, old mau,
To your feet it's rugged and rough.
But you see a dear being with gentle eyes,
Ha* shared in your labor and sacrifice;
Ah I that has been sunshine enough, pliflRin,
For you and me, sunshine enough.
How long uince yoa’ve passed o’er the hill, old
.uan.
Of life o’er the top of th» hill ?
Were there beautiful valleys on t’other side?
Were there flowers and trees, with their branches
wide.
To shut out the heat of the sun, old man,
The heat of the fervid sun ?
And how do you cross the waves, old mau,
■Of sorrow, the fearful waves ?
Did you lay your dear treasures by, one by uue,
With au aching heart, and “God’s will be done,”
Under the wayside dost, old mac,
In the graves ’neath the wayside-dust?
There is labor aud sorrow for all, old man,
Alas! there is sorrow for all.
And you, peradventure, have had your share,
For e’ghty long winters have whitened your hair,
Aud they’ve whitened your heart as well, old man,
Thank God, your heart as well.
You’re now at the foot of the hill, old man,
At last at the foot of tbe hill;
The sun has gone down in a golden glow'.
And the heavenly city lies just below;
Go in through the pearly gate, old mau,
The beautiful pearly gate.

which commerce bears onr flag. the peculiar merits
or the article are known and appreciated. It has
been fonud suited to all climates, all localities, an.l
the needs of every class of society. Compounded of
tlie purest vegetable Ingredients, unalloyed with any
mineral salt or corrosive vegetable alkaloid, and com
bining the propertied of a WHOLESOME STO
MACHIC, a GENTLE LAXATIVE, and' an efficient
ANTI-BILIOUS AGENT, it ia endorsed by practlca
Chemists as the safest, and by unprejudiced physi
cians as the surest Preventative, Regulating and
Kestqr^Uxp Preparation of the age.
Tire nature of Its components is the guarantee or
its liarnileSsness. It consists of the stimulating prin
ciple of sound Rye, nit-aicatod with the lliiest tonic,
anti-febrile, aperient, aati-scorbutic, and auti-spas

In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a sys
tem of inspection far, more thorough Ui.:i that
adopted by Government authOritv, as a test of the
quality of the great staples of life, is rigorously prac
tised. Every barrel of the cereal stimulant which
rorms the basts of tile Bitters is ascertained to lie ab
solutely pure before it is received into the manufac
turing department, and every leaf and flbre of the
medicating ingredients scrutinized before tlie proces
of infusion eoinmeflec*. Such is the enormous oa
paclty of the taukala which tlie Btt'ers are prepared
that the proprietors are'enabled to keep a large storf
on band, and Pi supply the domestic and foreign
market with au article matured and mellowed by
time. Hence the flery and biting rlavor which at

.STOMACH BITTERS
Are the ouly Medicinal Tonic in the World or which
that fluid is the stimulating ingredient.
To Dyspeptic Sufferers.
Fmler the general liea-l of Dyspepsia may lie classed
all ilia varieties or Indigestion. Its symptoms are
so various, aud differ so mtich lit different individuals
that it is almost impossible todassily them. In lad,
some of them arc utterly indesuribalte. It may he
safely asserted, however, that half the diseases ol
mankind spring from a disordered condition of tin
stomach; and that the other half, whatever theii
origin, read upou that sensitive and important or
gan. Among the ordinary indications of Dyspepsia
are flatulence, a bloated and lull feeling about the
stomach and abdomen Immediately after eaftug, a
gnawing sensation or a senw of hollowness ai tlie
pit of tbe stotnaeb between meals, a heavy dull feel
ing in tile bead, feeble or unsteady appetite, occa
sion'll nausea, restlessness during night and a wearv,
uurefresUed teclingon rising in tlie morning, palpita
tion of the heart, depression of mind, sometimes
amounting to monomania, loss or memory, con fu
sion of thought, sour stomach, with raising of fond,
and a choking sensation in the throat, dimness of
eye, pain in the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli
nation for exertion, and sometimes emaciation and
oorpsc-like pallor. These are a few of the direct
signs of Dyspepsia, bnt as It ie generally complicated
with specific affections of the bowels, the liver and
the nerves, its victims have many additional tomtoms
which are technically atlrlnuted to oilier canses.
The best advice that can be given to any one who
has tho slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, Is to for
tify his or her digestive organs by the daily use of
Hostetler’s Ritters.
Tli? disease proceeds from a lack of vigor in the
stomach, ami this vitalizing preparation will tone
and renovate that orgau. It the gastric apparatus is
iregoo«l working order, and can perfectly dissolve
and thoroughly assimilate the rood submitted to its
operation, there will tie no Dyspepsia. If it cannot
do tills. It requires reinforcement, aud tlie heat of all
reinforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to.
Tlie stomach is the commissariat of tlie system. It
supplies tlie elements of life to the whole body. In
It j^f^repaivd tlie material of blood, muscle, bone
and fibre, and if it rail9 to purvey that material in
quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body suf
fers. and with it the mental faculties. Therefore pro
tect the commissariat department. Dou’t let the en
emy obtain possession of it. It is easier to prevent
disease from getting into an organ than to expel it
after it becomes a chronic fixture. Consider tlie
first indication of uneasiness4n the stomach us a
sign that Dyspepsia is preparing to attack, and bailie
it at once with the GRRAT RRPELLANT.
Bnt if it is too late to prevent, remember that it- is
not too late to enre. It is lielieved that there is no
case of Chronic Indigestion that can withstand tbe
remedial operation of
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters..
This belief Is grounded on twelve yean’ experience
of tbe eltleacy of the preparation. The first instance
ol ils failure to give relief Is yet unchrotitclert. If It
ever bad failed, luc voluminous correspondence ad
dressed to the proprietors from all parts of tlie Untied
States and South America, wonld at least include
one letter expressing dissatisfaction. But no, there
is NOT ONE. The testimony, extending over a perils!
of more than a dozen year,, la all of the approving
tenor. Certainly this da a raflfcieut warrant for
claiming that the BITTERS are a SPECIFIC FOR
INDIGESTION IN ALL IT9 VApIETIBS.
Hostetter’s Bitters
AS A
Household Medicine.
It Ls a great fallacy to suppose that the nauseous
ness of a medicine is any proof of its value as a res
torative. The truth is, tbst If the pslate revolts
sgalnst a remedy, it cannot do much good.
HOSTETTER’S BITTERS
Arc pot rfhplftreant to uie taste, apa always eeotiio
and quiet, instead of irritating the stomach: indeed
they are the best known preventative of refinus for
nausea. Their usefulness as a family specific can
semroely be overrated. For sickness at the stomach,
sudden spasms, wind colic, hysterica, nervous head
ache, lassitude, InVr spirits, and the thonsacd and
one little ailments that are continually occarrlng’fo
every family, there is nothing comparable to them. A
whole medicine cheat fall of tinctures, essences, pow-
dert, and pills, is not worth a single bottle of the
BITTERS In such cases.
Caution.
THE GOVERNMENT INDORSEMENT.
In order to guard against dangerous impositions,,
the public arc requested to take especial note of the
beautifully engraved proprietary stamp, through
which the Government of the United Mates officially
authenticates cveiy bottle or Hostetter’s Ritters.—
This shield, thrown by tlie Government over tire-pro
prietors and ine public for their joint protection. Is
placed conspicuously across the cork and over the
neck of each bottle, and cannot fail to strike the eye
of the most casual observer. Nothing that purports
to be Hostcttcr’d Bitten can be geaaiwe nnlas* the
stomp is there.
*■ It is also proper to stats that-the-Jffittors are sold
exclusively in glam, and never, uMer an; circum
stances' by • the*|a)lon or barrel. Impostors and
traitors arc abroad, and th#ouly safeguard the pub
lic have Against them is to see that the Bitters they
boy bear the engraved label and note or hand of
Messrs, jlaetctter A Smith, sad the «ump above men
tioned.
