The following negroes, charged with the murder of Bam Quarterm&u (colored), at a dance on the Ander son road, on the night of the 21st of July last, were examine d before Justice P. M. Bussell, yesterday morning. State vs. Bichard Quggs, Louisa Buggs, John Gill, Mollis Mills and Isaac Jenkins. Several witnesses were sworn In the case, but as the testimony of th6 first, John Gill, gave all the testimony neoeeehry to the conviction of the murderers, the zest being corroborative, we publish only the leading fhots in hia testimony, which was as follows: Upon examination, John Gill testified 'that he was door keeper at a dance on the Anderson road, about a mile from the city, on the night of the 21st of July |H4 was ordered not to allow any rowdies to go in. Richard Buggs attempted to go in aud was stopped. A man named John Black requested Gill Id gtt£er Buggs to enter, as he would create no difficulty, which he did. Shortly after Boggs entered he created a dif ficulty, broke up the dance, qnd struck Quarter- mou with a slqng shot- Immediately after Quartermon was struck the wife of Buggs cut at him several times. She was then taken hold of by a negro man, whom she cut with a knife. She then went out into a stable and cut an other man, and also fired a pistol off. Gill also testi fied that no person struck or cut $t Quarterman ex cept Ruggf* and his wife, and that no difficulty oc curred at the dance until they came there. The other testimony adduced was confirmatory of Gill’s, and at the post mortem examination held upon Quarterman, it was shown that he had been struck in the head as well aa cut. Justice RusboU, with this testimony before him, committed Bichard and Louisa Buggs to jail, to await their trial before the January term of the Superior Court for the offence of murder, and discharged the rest of the negroes accused. The three negroes whoso testimony were taken in the case, entered into bonds for their appearance at Court, to testify on behalf of the State. WE, HAVING been appointed General Agents for Georgia and Florida, are now prepared to exhibit every style or tbe above Machines. See circular below. Circular. We claim for the Flobenck the following advan tages over any and all Sewing Machines: r It makes four different stitches, the lock, knot, doable lock, and doable knot, on one and the a machine. Each stitch being alike on both sides of the fabric. r Every Machine has the reversible feed motion, which enables the operator, by simply turning a thumb screw, to have the work run either to the right or left, to stay any port of the seam, or fasten the ends of seams, without turning the fabric. r*The only Machine having a self-adjusting shuttle tension—the amount of tension always being to exact proportion to the stee of tbe bobbin. f Changing the length of stitch, and from one kind of stitch to another, can readily be done while the Machine is in motion. tW The needle is easily adjusted. tW It Is ilmoat noiseless, and can be need when quiet Is necessary. * -Its motions aro all positive; there are no springs to get ont of order, and Us simplicity enables the most inexperienced to operate It. - It does not require finer thread on the under than for the upper side, and will sew across the heaviest seams, or from one to more thicknesses of cloth, without change of needle, tension, or break- tog thread. r The Hemmer Is easily adjusted and will tarn any width of hem desired. r* No other Machine will do so great a range of work ns the Florence. "• It will hem, fell, bind, gather, braid, quilt, end gather and aew on a raffle at the same time.
