There was quite a large attendance at the Exchange last evening, pursuant to previous aathonneanunt. for the purpose of organizing a new Loan Aasnclatini. He meeting was called to order by appointing UajA J, N. Lewis Chairman, and J. W. Heidi Secretary. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting to be the organization of a new association, to be called the Workingmen's Association, and when organized the members could change the name if they so de sired. The object of the meeting having been explained, a motion was made and carried that the number of shares be limited to three thousand, and that no per son be allowed to subscribe less than five, but as many above that number as he desired. A motion was made and carried that the Association have two sets of books, one to be kept by the Chair man at the National Bank, and the other lo beMt at the Drug Store of Messrs. A. A. Solomons & Co., for subscriptions, ami as soon as a sufficient number of shares were taken that a meeting be called for the purpose of electing permanent officera of the Asaocia lion. There beingina^other business before the. meeting m motion for adjournment was mads aad carded. Prior to adjournment there were six hundred and eighty shares subscribed for, which is regarded by members of former Associations as a good beginning. Cotton.—During the past week the cotton market has been dull; prices ranging principally from 27@ 32>aC. New York Middling has been quoted recently at 33c., and to-day the same quality has been offered at 31**'@32c. The general estimates of the approaching crop range from 1,800,000 to 1,900,000 bales, and plant ers generally expect to realize about 30c. per It for middlings. It is now a matter of certainty that there will be very little cotton in the South of the old stock on the 1st day of September next. If the estimate of the crp^ as given above shall prove to be correct, estimating the currency .on the basis of its present value as com pared with gold and sterling exchange, it appears high ly probable that the average price of middling cotton during the next twelve mouths, will not be below 2o@30c. per pound. As soon as the stocks of cotton, however, begin to accumulate at the ports, consumers and speculators, taking advantage of the necessities of producers, will dhe every effort to depress prices, and will probably succeed temporarily. The South being conqparatively bare of capital, and there not being the apqil banking facilities at her centres of trade, suofe flfl*'effort will proveinare successful tfivi it possibly could under morejtospicioiis tircumstatfees. . . The demand for bacon; com and i—Tisings £|p ally, will be larger than lor any year previous to* the lato war. Reference is made to ths demand for sup plies to be drawn from New York, Philadelphia, Balti more, and other Northern cities. Prices for provisions will therefore continue high, as also for bagging and rope. ~ - >-■ It is hoped that after the present year, thesystem of labor will be so regulated at the South by wise legisla tion, that the planter, at the beginning of each year, will be able to calculate with some degree of certainty what will be his financial condition at its termination. Bacon.—There is a good supply in the market and a moderate demand. Prices are a littfe higher than at our last report. Wc quote sides, clear, 24@24)£c; dear ribbed, 24@234£c; ribbed, 22&22>£c; shoulders, 19<§ 20c. Hams, canvassed, 25> s «^28c. Bagging an^ Rope.—The demand for bagging has increased considerably, as also the prices since our last report, owing to the small quuitity on hand in this and Northern markets. During the week considerable has changed hands at from 39@40e. for Gunny and 45 @50c. for Sea Island. Rope is held at 18@23c., accord ing to quality. Butter.—The supply is fair and the demand mode rate. Prices have not changed, and we quote prime Western at 38(5.42>2c., and Goshen at 45c. Country Produce—There has been but little change during the week, except in wool, which has ihllen a few cents. Wo quote wool at 27c.; hides, IOc.; tallow, 12>aC-» aQ d beeswax 30c. Coffee.—The market is well supplied, and prices have advanced. We quote St. Domingo at 26@27>i<r.; Rio at 29(5)31c.; and Java 40<$42c. Corn.—The quantity of prime white corn is exceed ingly limited, and prices are considerably higher. Prime Maryland white is held at $1 45@1 47>£.; mixed yellow is worth $1 25, and prime yellow $130. Flour.—New flour is now arriving freely, and is held at $15(5)17 for superfine, and $18 for extra. Q1A flour continues in good supply, with a fair demand. We quote fine at $8@8 50; superfine, $9@10; extra, $10@ 12, and choice at $14@16. Hay.—There is none arriving. That now on the market is entirely in the hands of retailers and is held at $1 75 for Northern, and $2 00 per bale for Eastern. Lard.—The stock on hand is ample for the limited demand. Prime leaf is quoted at 26@28c., and pressed at 21@22c. Liquors.—Tlie market is dull, with ess, and prices remain firm. Molasses and Sugars.—There is very little change in the market, and prices remain about the same au at our last weekly report. Timber and Lumber.—There is not much doing, owing to the scarcity of vessels. There is a good de mand, and prices have advanced considerably, with a tendency upward. Mill timber, good average, would command from $11(5,14.
