At iMt my husband's grave is found!
My aching feet may rest,
And I may swoon away and dream
I lean upon his breast
A Southern man. for Southern cause,
Regardless of the cost _ ..
WoreSotttherngray; 'neath 8outhem flag
He fought and won—I loatl
And though the marshalled hosts in 11
Trampheavy on my heart,
I’d rather weep than blush for him—
Thank God, he bore his part I
How long ago I cannot tell—
It aeams one hundred years I
For time has held in scarlet hand
An hour glass dimmed by tears.
God bless the gentle ones who came
At fewning of the year,
And wept with me and garlanded
Bright laurels for thy bierl
A widow's prayer will rise for aye.
Strangers, for thee and thine;
The kindly hands that ministered,
How bleat, had they boon mine I
An emblem of my widowhood
la all that I can bring—
A stainless harp, four broken chorda,
And one poor silent string 1
Ah 1 wake me not I This spirit hand
That sweeps the green, strung pine
With lingers light, and-strokes my hair
Caressingly, is thine I
Kisses I press upon tho earth,
Oh atlllest arms, unfold 1
Thou wilt not give me kisa for kiss.
Oh sod, thou art so cold!
If life and death were mine to choose,
I'd be the coldest clod
On thy dead heart, than living flower
That breathes above the sod 1
I wait; sleep on where comrades sleep
Off guard, thy warrior soul
Would rather rise in rank when God
Shall call His muster roll t

—An English Lord, sitting in the telegraph
office in London, had his cigar lit by au
electric spark from Heart's Content. It cost
him two hundred guineas.
—The Herald’s Matamoras correspondent
says the American colonists in Mexico are
begging transportation to the United States
again.
—The story, purporting to come over the
Atlantic Telegraph, that an attempt had
been made to blow up the Parliament House
in England with gunpowder,is pronounced a
hoax.
—The year 1867 is fixed upon by very
many sects, Christian as well as heathen, as
the era of some great event They would
evince much more sagacity by pointing out,
in this progressive age, some year likely to
prove barren of great events.
—A little baby in search of a father has
brought up at the poor house in Richmond
for the fourth time. It has.on three occasions
been reclaimed by a young lady, who then
leaves it at the residence of some of the
wealthier citizens.
—A Memphis lady was picked up the other
morning very drunk. She explained that,
having the toothache, she had smoked a
strong pipe to relieve the pain, and it flew to
her head. That's all.
—Mr. Montford, of Springfield, Illinois,
knowing that a young lady, with whom he
was in love, was going to a party the other
night, loitered in a yard adjoining her resi
dence to see who attended her home, and
was shot for a burglar. He may recover, but
his curiosity is blighted.
—“My son,” said an affectionate mother to
her son, who resided at a distance and ex
pected in a short time to be married, “yon
are getting very thin.” “Yes, mother,” he
replied, “I am, and when you see me next,
I think you will see my rib.”
—A formidable movement is being made
by capitalists in New York, the object of
which is to lay another cable across the At
lantic. It is barely possible that the cable
business may be run into the water, if not
into the ground. The capital stock of the
concern is to be $10,000,000.
—The cholera continues to rage in Lon
don. The Bishop of London and several
ladies accustomed to nursing, aud clergymen
from the healthy parts of London have of
fered their services in tho districts afflicted
with the cholera. Great benefit has resulted
from their exertions.
—A party of benevolent gentlemen from
the North contemplate a settlement of
freedmen in Texas, and design to purchase
two plantations in Austin county for that
purpose. They will erect churches, school
houses and quartets for the freedmen, and
furnish good wages and constant employ
ment. The project is endorsed by Genera]
Howard.
—Andrew T. Stewart’s (of New York)
income is larger than the annual salaries
combined of the President of the United
States, the governors of all the states, Sena
tors and Congressmen, state officers, and
members of the Legislatures of the different
states. Out of such an income Mr. Stewart
could pay the entire expenses of several
state governments as easily as many men
now support their own families.

I was induced lo give your Hair p epsi ation a trial,
and can heartily recommend it as unequalled as a
Dressing, Partner ami Restorer,—giving to the Hair
a luxuriant richness, ami to the head a cool anil
most agreeable sensation, while it Ls thorough In re
storing the hair to its natural color.
Very respectfully, W. Hamlet.

Messrs. J. R Bakreit A Co :
I was induced by a friend to make.a trial of Bar
rett’s Vegetable Hair Restorative, and I am very
much pleased with the effect it has had on my hair.
1 was nearly half gray, and now, Indore using one
tiottle, my head Ls irecd from dandruff, and my hair
lias all the appe nance of youth. 1 lully believe Bar
ren’s to tic the heat hair preparation in the world.
