Contempt of Court.
J. Kenedy, a negro, who prides himself -somewhat
on bis oratorical powers, was brought up before His
Honor yesterday morning, charged with being drunk
near the market on Saturday afternoon; also with
Bahtin" iu the streets and resisting a police officer.
Kenedy acknowledged the charges, and stated that his
reason for resisting a policeman was, that he didn’t
think they had any right %o collar him.—
Perhaps to his mind’s eye the policeman had
no right to collar a dandified colored gem-
man like him; nevertheless, as the police are em
powered to collar all refractory characters, white or
black, when under arrest, and Kenedy’s argument
not holding good, he was fined twenty dollars or to
lie placed on the chain gang for thirty days. The
prisoner, on hearing his sentence, stated in a con
temptuous manner that there was no chain gang for
him, whereupon he was called back,to his great chagrin
and surprise, and sentenced, in addition to the first
sentence, to be imprisoned for three months.
This is the same individual who, a short time since,
swore in the Mayor’s Court that he was up in the
third story of a colored billiard room, and that a ne
gro man who had fired a pistol within a few feet of a
policeman, about nine o’clock at night, was not the

A Disorderly diameter.
(juite a disturbance was created in the streets
•Sunday last by F. Ficklin, a negro. He first went to
the colored church on New street and created a dis-’
tnrbauce, as he said, in order to get his wile out. The
congregation being disturbed by him, a number of
the tutu came out, when Ficklin picked up several
brickbats and began to pelt the crowd. A colored
man having calledmpou a policeman to arrest Ficklin,
he refused to be arrested, and used the most indecent
language to him. A sergeant ot the police soon came
; his assistance, and the obstreperous negro was con
veyed to tlie police barracks. On arriving there he
was very abusive to the officers who arrested him, as
well aa to the officers at the barracks. On beiDg
brought before His Honor tbo'Mayor, yesterday morn
ing, he was charged with four offences, viz : Disor
derly eon ;uct in die church on New street. " 2d. Dis
orderly conduct ou the streets.. 3d. Abusing officers in
the discharge of their duty. 4th. Disorderly conduct
in the office at ihe police barracks. AU of these
charges being clearly proven against him, he was sen-
tenced to thirty days on the chain gang for each
offence, making iu all one hundred and twenty days
for his half hour’s sport.

Worn.m who was charged with being intoxicated aud
throwing her employer’s crockery ware in every direc
tion, regardless of the pieces or expense. The police-
liiau who was called on to make the arrest stated that
ehe did not seem to be much under the iiifluence of
liquor, but was laboring somewhat under excite
ment, as if she had been in a difficulty. Not having
much to say iu her own defence, she was fined three
dollars. j; .
Edward King, (colored,) charged with being a sus
picious character, he having been found loitering
under the arches, north side of Bay street, was fined

Passing Counterfeit Money.—Benjamin Wallace,
a negro, was brought before the Mayor’stourt yester-
' % niornibg, charged with passing counterfeit notes.
It appears that Wallace went into a store on Brough
ton street, Saturday evening, and after purchasing
tight dollars worth of shirts, tendered payment for
them in counterfeit notes. The notes being new i}nd
easily detected, the store-keeper at once discovered
them to be counterfeits aud had the negro arrested.
After he was taken iu charge by the policeman, a
pocket book containing a number of counterfeits was
lounjl upon his person. On being brought before
His Honor the Mayor, yesterday morning, he was
turned over to a Magistrate for pro8eoution,.but waa
subsequently taken charge of by the United States
Marshal aud committed to jail for examination. A
negro named Miller has also been arrested on suspi
cion of being associated with Wallace in passing
counterfeit money.

Schooner Glenboy.—The Board of Port Wardens,
accompanied by H. F. Willink, Jr., Master Carpenter,
held a survey on the Schooner Glenroy, on Saturday
last. After a thorough inspection of the
was condemned, and ordered to be sold for ihe benefit
uf &U parties concerned. The Glenroy is a very old
- v essel, being upwards of eighteen years old.
Captain Murray deserves the thanks of the owner* for
the manner in which he worked the vessel into port
after the disaster, with nothing but a jury mast, and
the vessel in danger of sinking all iho while. We hope
shortly to see Capt. Murray in a vessel that is worthy
of his well tested qualifications aa a seaman. ? .
From Baltimore.—The steamship. North Point,
Capt. Smith, from Baltimore, arrived at her wharf
about half past four o’clock yesterday afternoon. For
files of late Baltimore papers we are indebted to Pur-
ser Solana.
In anticipation of the increased trade to be carried
on between Baltimore and Savannah the earning fall,
learn that negotiations are now pending for the
purchase of another steamer to run in connection
with the North Point and Fannie.
Underwriter’s Salk.—We have been req tonested
state that the forty tons of iron, Ac., advertised to be
by Messrs. Bell, Wylly k Christian on the 5th
has been sold.
