C Anderson, the fol- lowing cases were disposed of on Saturday: William Carlton was charged with vagrancy. He stated that he came originally from Engjr luini.but latterly from Hilton Head. Carlton not know ing the name of the person who commanded the boat that brought him to this city, by which means he might he sent back to Hilton Head, he was therefore tamed over to the British Consul Charles Ferguson, (colored,) was charged with im proper conduct, sleeping ou the steps of the colored church on New street Ferguson stated that, happen ing in that part of the city on Friday’ evening when die rain came up, he took shelter on the steps of the church, where he accidentally fell asleep and remained until a late hour ou Friday night, when he was awakened by the police and conveyed to the police barracks, lie was sentenced to be confined for twen- ty-f'iir hours. MiUiatu lirown, (colored,) was arrested at an cariy hour on Saturday morning, having in his possession a new felt bat supposed to be stolen. Brown stated that the hat had been given to him by another negro named Jake to se 1 for him on commission, but as he stated he had never st^en Jake before he give him the bat to sell, and knew nothing of his whereabouts, the supposi ion was that he would be unable to find Jake 1,1 civ.* him the proceeds derived from the sale of the bat. it was therefore forfeited and Brown was sen tenced to the United States Barracks for thirty days. SINCE THE LAST ANNUAL MESSAGE Issued by thi Pjkofbibtobb op • ♦ Hostetter’s STOMACH BITTERS, For the information and guidance of all who regard health As the GREATEST OF TEMPORAL BLESSINGS, the demand for this potent and agreeable Vegeta ble TONIC and ALTERATIVE has been immensely increased. Not only in this country, but In all other lands to which commerce bears our flag, the peculiar merits of the article are known and appreciated. It has been fonnd suited to all climates, all localities, and the needs of every class iff society,. Compounded of the purest vegetable ingredients, unalloyed with any mineral salt or corrosive vegetable alkaloid, and com bining the properties of a WHOLESOME STO MACHIC, a GENTLE LAXATIVE, and an efficient ANTI-BILIOUS AGENT, it is endorsed by practica Chemists as the safest, and by unprejudiced physi cians as the surest Preventative, Regnlating aud Restorative Preparation of the age. The nature of its components is the guarantee of ts bmrmlessness. It consists of the stimulating prin ciple of sound Rye, meoicated with the finest tonic, anti-febrile, aperient, anti-scorbutic, and autirspas- modic herbs, roots and barks that botanical research has yet developed Tor the use of man. Every vegeta ble substance that enters into its composition is culled and selected with scrupulous care, and no; thing that is not sound and perfect or its kind ia nsea in Its manufacture. In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a sys tem of inspection far more thorough than that adopted by Government authority, aa a test of the qnality of the great staples of life, is rigorously prac tised. Every barrel of the cereal stimulant which forms the basis of the Bitters is ascertained to be ab solutely pure before it is received into the manufac- on hand, and to supply the domestic and foreign- - market with an article matured and mellowed by Civile. Ho ace the fiery and biting flavor which at taches to ordinary bitters, and which is doe to thejc newness and the interior qnality of the ^raga and alcoiwl of which they are concocted, is never per ceived ia tills mild and agreeable preparation. Ac cording to the testimony of able chemists, the es sence of good Rye is the' 1 most, healthful of all spirits, and Hostetler’s MONTPELIER late. Institute, NEAR Macon, Georgia. Among the ordinary indications of Dyspepsia are flatulence, a bloated and {nil feeling about the stomach and abdomen immediately after eating, a gnawing sensation or a sense of hollowness at the pit of tho stomach between meals, a heavy dull feel ing in the head, feeblo or unsteady appetite^ occa sional nausea, restlessness during night and a weary, nurefreshod feeling on rising in the morning, palpita tion of the heart, depression of mind, sometimes amounting to monomania, loss of memory, confu sion of thought, sour stomach, wilh raising or food, and a choking sensation in the throat, dimness of eye, paluin the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli nation for exertion, and sometimes emaciation and a corpse-like pallor. These are a few of the direct signs of Dyspepsia, but as it is generally complicated with specific affections of the bowels, the liver and the 1 erves, its victims have many additional torments which are technically attributed to other causes. The best advice that can be given to any one who has tho slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, is to for tify his or her digestive organs by the daily use of fiostetter’s Bitters. The oi.iease proceeds from a lack of vigor in the stomach, aud tills vitalizing preparation will tone and renovate that organ. If the gastric apparatus is in good working order, and can perfectly dissolve and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted to its operation, there will be no Dyspepsia. If it cannot do this, it reqniFes reinforcement, and the best of all reinforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to. The stomach is the commissariat of the system. It applies the elements of life to the whole body. Ip it is prepared tbe material of blood, muscle, bone and fibre, and if it fails lo purvey that material in quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body suf fers, and with it the m ntal faculties. Therefore pro tect the commissariat department. Don’t let the en emy obtain possession of it. It is eas : er to prevent disease from getting into an organ than to expel it after It becomes a chronic flit ore. Consider the first indication of uneasiness iu the stomach as a sign that Dyspepsia is preparing to attack, aud b .lBei it at once with the GREAT KEPELLANT. But if it is too late to prevent, remember that it is not too late to cure. It is believed that there i9 no case of Chronic Indigestion that can withstand the remedial operation of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters. This belief is grounded on twelve yeats’ experience of the efficacy of th- preparation. The first instance of Its failure to give relief is yet nnchlonicled. Hit ever had failed, the voluminous correspondence ad dressed to the proprietors from all parts of tbe United States and South America, would at least include one letter expressing dissatisfaction. But net there is not one. The testimony, extending over a period of more than a dozen years, is all of the approving tenor. Certainly this is a sufficient warrant for claiming that the BITTERS are a SPECIFIC FOR INDIGESTION IN ALL ITS VARIETIES. The truth is, that if the palate revolts against a remedy, it cannot do wash good. HOSTETTER’S BITTERS Are not unpleasant to the taste, anil always soothe and qniet, instead of irritating the stomach. Indeed they are tbe best known preventad|e of and core for nausea. Their 1 usefulness as a family .specific can scarcely be overrated. For sickness at the stomach, sutfden spasms, wind colic, hysterica, nervous head ache, lassitude, lew spirits, and the thousand and one little silments that are continually occuriingin every family, there ia nothing comparable to them. A whole medicine chest foil of tincture*, eaptqcca, pow- L, dors; aud pills. In not worth a single bottle of tie H BITTERS in such cases. Caution. THE GOVERNMENT INDORSEMENT. Ia order to guard again*! dangerous impositions, the public are requested to take especial note of the beantffnlly engraved proprietary stamp, through which the Government of the United States officially authenticates every bottle of Hostetter’s Bittern— This shield, thrown by the Government over the pro prietors and tne public for their joint protection, 13 placed conspicuously across the cork and over Mm neck of each bottle, and cannot fa* to strike tne eye of the most casual observer, Nothing that purports to be Hostetter’s Bitters can be genuine unless tbe stamp is there. It Is also proper to state that the Bittert are raid exclusively in glass, and never; under any circum stances by the gallon or barrel. Impostnfs and traltore are abroad, and the onty safeguard the pub lic have against them is to me that tbe Bitters they buy bear tbe engraved label and note or band of Messrs. Hoe tetter A Smith, aud the stamp above men tioned.
