J. A. Wheclock, a prominent Epis copal divine, died in Memphis, Tenn., of cholera on the 17th in9t. —In Paris a drunken man tumbled into a basket containing three thousand eggs. He was cgtpelream ly yolk-ed. —Dr. Craven has already received from Carleton $12,000, as a copy fight on his “Prison Life of Jefferson Davis." He has also received £950 from England. —A calculation in one of the Macon jour nals estimates that it will require fifteen mil lion bushels of cofh to supply the deficiency in Georgia the next season. ' * —The English journals announce that the courts are releasing Fenian prisoners on condition that they immediately repair to America. —The half interest of Tmssell—recently shot in Chicago byhis mispress—in the horse Dexter, was sold to the surviving partner for S10.000. —Fred. Douglass and sons anticipate es tablishing a paper in Alexandria, Vai:, about December 1st, to fee devoted to the interests of the Virginia freedmen. —Alderman Grace, of Memphis, Tenn,, shot and killed Frank Cummins, a well- known merchant of that city, last Wednes day, in a street fight. —Before practising at the English bar, Mr. Benjamin had to swear allegiance to Qpeen Victoria, and to forswear • allegianee to any other government—particularly (probably) that of “the Confederate States of America.’’ —Charles Beader, of Philadelphia, who years ago compromised with hif creditors, and received a legr.l discharge, recently invi ted them to a dinner at the Continental, and paid each creditor the full amount of his. in debtedness. - —A pretty young lady called on a New York druggist last' week and left a basket “for a few minutes.” Directly after her de parture the cry. of an infant was heard, and the ba-ske. - became lively. No clue to the unnatural mother has been discovered. —A large number of samples of the new tobacco crop have been brought to Danville, Va., and is said to be of a bright, golden color, and o^fine qnality.
