Steamship Cumbria.—The •teamship OUmbrte,
bound from New York, lor Mobile, which We' noticed
in our last issue, as having put into Tybee, on account
of the breaking of her forward piston, came up to the
city yesterday, for the pupoae of obtaining a new one.
She is now lying at the wharf, near Miller’s Foundry,
and wiH not leave nntil the early part of the coming
week.
More Locomotives fob the Grlf Road We learn
from a gentleman recently arrived from the North,
that there are two fine locomotives vow beiiw put op
at the well known establishment of Rogers k Son,
Patterson, N. J.. which are intended for the Atlantic
and Gulf Railroad.
The work on the new pilot boat now being built by
Mr. H. F. WiUink, jr., for a company of Savannah
river pilots, is being carrier 1 , forward to completion
rapidly. The frame has all been put' sp, and it ie
thought she will be ready for tho watery elements in a
short time.

A New Coaster—We yesterday noticed in course
of construction at the Eastern \rkarves a new cossting
sloop, which will be ready for service in a few weeks.

The long and joyous summer vacation of the public

There was but uxie case brought before His Honor,
the .Mayor, yesterday morning. That of a German,
who is somewhat of an idiot, was brought up en the
charge of vagrancy. The prisoner being unable to
speak English, he was interpreted by a German citi
zen. who learned from him that he had bdt recently
arrived in this country, and was destitute of friends.
Hu Honor, the Mayor, turned him over to the Ger
man Fricndly Society, for disposition.
Thf. Kuxkels.—Last evening, although the weather
threatening, there was a fair house at the Theatre
witness the performance of this troupe. The cho-
nises of the company were well received and the Mlof
°f Mr. Kuukel elicited much applause. Hughy Pough-
