Alphonso, mistaking Ibe cause of her distress, is inexorable; and after pledging Gen? naro, and causing him to drink the poison poured out by 4he hands of Lucretia, herself, leaves him tp |u* late. Lucretia, left alone with Gennaro, administers to him-a powerful antidote, advising him at once to fly from Ferrara. ^ m The evil late of Gennaro prevails, and instead m Hy ing from the presence of the enraged Duke, he repairs to the castle ol Negroni (a courtezan,) where another night ia passed in dissipation. When the wine bae mounted into the heads of the guests, a cup-1 er brings iu goblets of poisoned wine; all Gubetta partake of the deadly draught, and, before the poison has operated, Lucretia Borgia herself appears, declares to the gneeto the nature of the bev erage ol which they have partaken, and reminds them of the insults ottered to her at Venice. ’Seeing Gen naro among the victims, she is horror-struck, and ex horts him again to have recourse to the antidote; but finding it will not be sufficient to save the whole of his friends, be resolves to die with them—then it is, for the first time, ho learns he is a Borgia, nod that Lucretia is his mother. Gennaro dies from the effect of the poison, and Lucretia Borgia sinks lifeless into^j the arms of her attendants. We were permitted, yesterday, to listen to the^kffh ■ rehearsal of the new opera, Crispino. We oan Safely say that there is a rich treat in store for our public. The music is beautiful and sparkling, and the action comic and highly interesting. A propoa, as to the production of L’Africaipe, we have seen some of the scenery that the management brought ou here, especially the grand ship and the tree, and can pronounce them as something wonder ful—certainly, without exaggeration, the beat and finest yet seen in our theatre.
