. szzssassm The Dailv News and Herald. MONDAY MORNING. OCTOBER 15. 18M. Where the Baby Came Fnh> A nArly-married individual-pleased at a little inci dent that happened in hie family (the hret oocorrMoe of tho kind) gives vent to his feelings in the follow ing interesting and imaginative effusion, onuuea, * "HI child’* OBIOIS.’* One night as old St. Peter slept, He left the door of Heaven *jar, When through a little angel crept, And came down with a foiling star, One Summer, as the blessed beams Of morn approached, my bloahing bride Awoke from sweet and pleasant dreams, Aud found that angel by her side. God grant but this—I ask no more— That when he leaves this world ot sin He’ll wend his way to that bright shore, And find that door of Heaven again. Whereupon some fellow of a practical torn, without any imagination, and not possessed of the “divine Afflatus,” has attempted to destroy the illusion of David, as follows: “ST. PETER’S REPLY.” Fall eighteen hundred years or more, I've kept my door securely tied; * There was no little angel left, Nor one been missing, as implied. I did not sleep*as you supposed, Nor left the door of Heaven ajar, Nor has a little angel left,, And gone down with a falling star. Go ask the blushing bride, and see If she don't fraukly own and say. That when she found that angel babe, She found it in the good old way. God grant but this—I ask no more— That should your number still enlarge, That you will not do as before. And lay it to St. Peter’s charge.. . Groceries and Liquors.
