MORNING. OCTOBER 20. 1868.
The Ceuer-Bowli
[Neither Charles Lamb's "Ode to Tobacco." nor
Keats’ “Lay to a Pipe,” is more unique in it* way
«i.»n Hie following pleasant lines from the pen of Gen.
Buckner:] • .
Let others sip the flowing bowl.
And try the sorrows of the son!
With bumpers fa allay;
Give me a solace more tmtque,
Let me the Camr-howl but seek,
And steep my sorrows In pgrtque,
And whiff my cares away.
And as the circling clonda ascend,
And rolling on, expand and blend,
And mingle with the air.
So every grief will fade away;
And hope, as joyous, bright and gay
As is the morning’s early ray,'
Dispel all thoughts of care.
And then what glories wait ns, if
We build with each succeeding whiff
Borne castle m the air,
And with the magic censer raise.
Amid the clouds a thousand Fays,
Whose beamiug smiles would fix the gazs
Of every votary there.
An idol, shrined within our hearts,
’Tit woman’s sweet and witching arts
That lift our thoughts on high;
And, as the fragrant clouds arise.
We think that woman's speaking eyes,
Bright beaming from their kindred aides,
With heavenly lustre vie.
As votive-offering thus we burn.
Like true idolaters we turn
To worship at her shrine;
Ah 1 sweeter then her glances seem,
Aud brighter still her splendors beam.
While reigning in our hearts supreme.
She teems indeed divine.

Aa the GREATEST OF TEMPORAL BLESSINGS, the
demand for this potent and agreeable Vegeta
ble TONIC and ALTERATIVE has
been Immensely Increased.
Not only In this country, bat In all other lands to
which commerce bean our flag, the peculiar merits,
of the article are known and appreciated. It has
been fonnd suited to all climates, all localities, aud
the needs of every class of society. Compounded u
the purest vegetable Ingredients, unalloyed with any
mineral salt or corrosive vegetable alkaloid, and com
bining - the properties of a WHOLESOME STO
MACHIC, a GENTLE LAXATIVE, and an efficient
ANTI-BILIOUS AGENT, it is endorsed by practice
Chemists as tlw safest, and by unprejudiced physi
cians as the sorest Preventative, Regulating. and
Restorative Preparation ef tlie age.
The nature of Its compontnts la the guarantee oi
ts harmlessnesa. It conaiita of the stimulating prin
ciple of sound Rye; meoleatod with the finest tonic,
antl-febrile, aperient, anti-scorbutic, and anti-spas-
modlc herbs, roots and bark* that botanical research
has yet developed for the nse of man. Every vegeta
ble substance that enters Into Its composition is
culled and selected with scrupulous care, and no
thing that is not sound and perfect of its kind Is used
In its manufacture.
In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a sys
tem ot inspection far more thorough than that
adopted by Government authority, os a test of the
quality of the great staples of life, t» rigorously prac
tised. Every barrel of the cereal stimulant which
forms the basts of the Bitters la ascertained to be al>-
solntoiy pure before It Is received Into the manufac
turing department, and evety leaf and fibre of the
medicating ingredients scrutinized before the proves
of lnrusion commences. Such la the enormous ca
pacity of the tanks in which the Bitters are in-ep.ireu
that the proprietors are enabled to keep a large Aock
on hand, and to supply the domestic and for«*gn
market with an article matured and mellowed by
time. Heoce the fiery and biting flavor which at
taches to ordinary bitten, and which is dne to their
newness and the Interior quality of the drugs and
alcohol of which they an concocted, is never per
ceived in this mild and agreeable preparation. Ac
cording to the testimony of able chemists, the us
nonce of good Rye la the moet healthful of all spirits,

Hostetter’s
STOMACH BITTERS
Are the only Medicinal Tonic in the World of which
that fluid le the stimulating Ingredient.
To Dyspeptic Sufferers.
Under the general head of Dyspepsia may be classed
all the varieties of indigestion. Its symptoms arc
so various, and differ so much In different individuals
that it is almost impossible todeasify them. In fact
some of them are utterly Indescribable. It may he
safely asserted, however, that half the diseases ol
mankind spring from a disordered condition of the
stomach; and that the other half, whatever their
origin, react npoo that sensitive and important or
gan. Among the ordinary indications of Dye; epsfci
are flatulence, a bloated and full feeling about the
stomach and abdomen Immediately after eating, a
gnawing aensatlon or a sense of hollowness at the
pit or the stomach between meals, a heavy dull feel
ing in the head, feeble or unsteady appetite, occa
sional nausea, reatleaeness daring c • ht and a weary,
unrefreshed feeling on rising In th .-. orning, pulpitn
tion of the heart, depression lnd, sometimes
amounting to monomania, loa, “tnory, confu
sion of thought, soar stomach, with taking of food,
and a choking sensation in the throat, dimness of
eye, pain in the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli
nation for exertion, and sometimes emaciation and a
corpse-ltke pallor. These are a few or the direct
signs or Dyspepsia, bat as it Is generally complicated
with specific affections of the bowels, the liver and
the t, eives, its victims have many additional torments
which are technically attributed To other causes.
The best advice that can be given to any one who
his th* slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, is to for-
tlfj his or her digestive organs br the daily use of
Hostetter’s Bitters.
The disease proceeds from a lack of vigor in the
stomach, and this vitalising preparation will rouej # trec.L '*oili'cc,'ie«'iiay '»tiecL Savannah! Ql ijfiat
and renovate that organ. If the gastric-apparatus iff* 1 ■ * ’ ‘
in good working order, and can perfectly dissolve
and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted to its
operation, there will be no Dyspepsia. If it cannot
do this, it requires reinforcement, and the best of all
reinforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to.
The stomach Is the' dbmmiasarut of tlw system, it
applies the element* of life to the whole body. In
it Is prepared the material of blood, muscle, bone
and fibre, and if It falls to purvey that material in
quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body Buf
fers, and with it the mental faculties. Therefore pro
tect th* commissariat department. Don’t let the en
emy obtain possession of it. It is eas'er to prevent
disease from getting into an organ than to expel ft
after it become* a chronic fixture. Consider the
first Indlcat' in of onaaslncsa In the stomach as a
sign that Dyspepsia is preparing to attack, and ban* e
it at once with the CHEAT REPELLANT.
Bat if it la too late to prevent, remember that it is
not too late to care. It Is believed that there is no
case of Chronic Indigestion that can -withstand tie
remedial operation of
ON THIS CONTINENT.

AS A
Houseliold Medicine.
It is a great fallacy to suppose that the nauseous
ness of a medicine la any proof of its value as a res
torative. The truth ia, that if the palate revolts
against a remedy, it cannot do much good. »
HOSTETTER’S BITTERS
Are not unpleasant to the testa, and always sooths’
and quiet, instead of irritating the stomach. Indeed
they are the beet known preventative of and core for
nausea. Their asefblness an n family specific can
scarcely be overrated. For sickness at the stomach,
sudden spasms, wind colic, hysterica, nervous head
ache, lassitude, low spirits, and the thousand and
one little ailments that are continually occurring in
every family, there is nothing comparable to them. A
whole medicine cheat foil of Uactono, essences, pow
