The Catholic Council closed its session in Baltimore on Sunday .last. President John son was present. The proceedings and de crees are now to be sent to Borne, for super vision by the Pope. It is rumored that the Council recommended the appointment of twenty additional bishops and one arch bishop fof each six dioceses. Tne Indian War.—Geu. Sherman is re ported to be hurry ing troops further West to prevent what the Colorado News predicts •will be “a long and serious war.” Several posts in the territory have been captured and robbed of stock. The Charleston Courier learns that all the arrangements have been made, <ou the re in \il of the quarantine of Savannah, for the est blisbment of a daily line of steamers to ri:u between the above two ports. The Alabama Legislature will convene at Montgomery on Monday, the lltb of Novem ber. It will elect a United States Senator, to rucceed Gen. The Baden House of Deputies %ias rejected 1 the pro posed alliance with Prussia. * , Pams, Oct. 25.—Rumors are current that a change in the French Cabinet is imminent, in consequence of a threatened rupture* caused, by the Emperor in sisting on negotiations of large loans. It is now said that the French troops will leave Rome in December. . Vienna, Oct. 25.—Field Marshal Benedek* of the Austrian army, li^s been placed on the retind .list. Oct. 25—Noon.—The money market is sligkl^^iier; Consols, 89#; five-twenties, 68#. TE1 (IFIC HURRICANE. AT TURK’S ISLAND. Eight IIumlred Houses Destroyed. Halifax, Oct. 25.—The steamer Victor makes the following report: Turk’s Island, on the :J0tli of September, wasvisitsd by a terrific hurricane, destroying over eight hundred houses anil their contents. Over threo thousand por- sous arc rendered houseless and penniless, and are almost naked. One hundred and twenty thousand bushels of salt was swept away. Six foreign and twelve island crafts were lost, with twenty of their crews. The Baltimore Imbroglio. Washington, Octobor 25.—In the difficulty between the State authorities and the Police Commissioners there are no new developments. Tho Police Commis sioners, by their counsel, still decline to participate in an examination of witnesses to-morrow. Washington, October 25.—It is thought that the dauger of a serious difficulty in Baltimore on account of tbo Police Commissioners is nearly over. Such airangemenis will be made as will secure the preser vation of the peace in any event The President con siders that a requisition from the Governor of any State, no matter what form the difficulty may assume, must be responded to. Rvdu tion of Tariff on Atlantic Cable. New York, Oct 25.—Cyrus W. Field writes to D. •H. Craig, announcing that after November 1st the tariff on all messages through the Cable will be re duced fllty per cent. Railroad Convention. New York, Oct. 25.—A Convention of Railroad Presidents and officers is in session here, tho object of which is to effect an improvement in railroad con struction, maintenance aud management. No sub ject involving political discussion is entertained. New York Market.
