The Israelite, published iu the same city, replies as fol lows : Instead, however, or reviling othere, let them ad monish their neighbors to give honor to the Lord, aud outdo Jewish cburcheB iu splendor and magniliceuce. But this is too religious aud too charitable for an or thodox sheet; it prefers reviling its neighbors who erected a temple which, lor Bpleudor and magnifi cence. outdoes Christian churches here. Why should they not be reviled, when it is publicly knowu that they erected a temple to the Most High V Do they not deserve a slur, a kick, or at least an insinuation ? That this people, like any other in this country, have become richer during the war, cannot be well doubted, since, on account of the public debt, $3,000,- 000,000 of fictitious capital has been created for 30,000,- 000 of people, so that each man. woman or child in this country is worth $100 more fictitious capital than he, she or tt was before the war. There you have the exact calculation. If the Bene Yeshuran people of Cincinnati count 2,300 sou,a, and each gave up the $100 surplus fictitious capital, they realized exactly a quarter of a million, about the amount expendod on the new Temple. From this we hope the Witness will see that the money was all honestly made in Washington, or somewhere else where greenbacks were manufactured. , Wonder how many churches But'.er, Banks, Buel! . and Browulow built, to speak only of the B’s who | amassed fortunes in the late war 1 Wonder what the whole crowd of shoddies did with then- money for the glory of God ? In Cincinnati we have seen nothing except prayer-meetings, which cost nothing. The Jew is made of a different metal ; he has sense enough to make money and heart enough to^ spend it. ••The war was a rich harvest to them.” Not quite a* rich as to those pious men who robbed the pnblic treasury of millions—the defaulting paymasters, the trading generals, the permit-brokers iu uniform, the cotton speculating jiatriots, and alt the cousins, nephews, uncles, fathers, brothers aud grand-fathers of big men, who sucked tho marrow of the land; the Jew was obliged to work for himself, hence he could not expeef so rich a harvest—still he made money, at least $100 each a Head. But there is no collection listen record,-for recruiting purposes, for feeding passing soldiers, supporting soldiers’ families, or any other charitable purpose to which the Jews, iu proportion to number and wealth, did not contribute more, much more, than any other religious denomination. Now, the war over, they do not convert their capital into United States bonds, and retire with the wealth to places beyond the reach of the poor and needy, be yond the reach’ of societv and its wants, as four-fifths of all the shoddies do; they spend fortunes in im proving the public thoroughfares of the city, beauti- fyinMhe private streets and erecting houses of wor ship to the Most High. Tho shoddies would not do anything, that’s what ails, the Witness. .A.gents Wanted. FOB THE LTFE AND CAMPAIGNS OF Gen. Stonewall Jackson, BY PROF. R. L. DABNEY, 1>. D. : 0F VA. It consiats of the stimulating prin ciple of sound Rye, mtaiiiiited with the finest tonic, anti-febrile, aperient, anti-sCorbutic, and anthapas- modlc herbs, roots and barks that botanical research has yet developed for the use of man. Every vegeta ble substance that enters into its composition Is culled and selected with scrupulous care, and no thing that Is not sound and perfect of its kind is used In Its manufacture. In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a sys tem of inspection far more thorough than that adopted by Government authority, as s tost of the quality of the great staples of life, Is rigorously prac tised. Every barrel of ths cereal stimulant which forms the basis of the Bitters is ascertained to be ab solutely pure before tt Is received Into the Wianulhc- tnrlng department, and every leaf and fibre of the medicating Ingredients scrutinized before ths proves of Infusion commences. 8uch Is the enormous cu parity of the tanks In which the Bitten are prepareu that the proprietors are enabled to keep a large stock on hand, and to supply the domestic and fore'gn market with an article matured and mellowed by time. Hence the fiery and biting flavor which at taches to ordinary bitters, and •Which is dne to their NEWNESS and the interior qualify of tbe drugs and alcohol of which they are concocted, is never per ceived in this mitil and agreeable preparation. To Dyspeptic Sufferers. Under the general head of Dyspepsia maybe classed all the varieties of indigestion. Its symptoms are so various, and differ so much In different individuals that it is ahno.-t impossible to classify them. In fact, aoYtie of them arc utterly Indescribable. It may be safely asserted, however, that half the diseases of mankind spring from a disordered condition of the stomach: and that the other hair, whatever their origin, react upon that eeu-itivo and Important or gan. Among the ordinary indications of Dye:Spate are flatulence, a bloated and full feeling about the stomach and abdomen immediately slier eating, s gnawing sensation or a sense or hollowness at the pit of the stomach between meals, a heavy dull feel ing in the bead, feeble or unsteady appetite, ooca- j slonal nausea, restlessness during htaud a weary, I unrefreshed feeling on rising in tl< oming, palpita tion or tlie heart, depression ’ ‘OJ, sometimes amounting to monomania, los ■ mory, confu sion of thought, sour stomach, with laising of food, and a choking sensation in tho throat, dlmne3» of eye, pain in the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli nation for exertiou, aud sometimes emaciation and a corpse-like pallor. These are' a few of the direct signs of Dyspepsia, bat as it is generally couSplicated with specific affections of tbe how. Is, tbe liver and the i eives, its victims have many additional torments which are technically attributed to other causes. The best advice that can be given to any one who has the slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, Is to for tify his or her digestive organs by the daily use of liostetter’s Bitters. The uizease proceeds from a lack or vigor In the stomach, and this vitalizing preparation will tone and renovate that organ. ir the gastric apparatus is in good working order, and can perfectly dissolve and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted to Its operation, there will be no Dyspepsia. If it cannot do this, It requires reinforcement, and the bert of all remforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to. The stomach is the commissariat of the system- It applies the elements of life to the whole body. Is It is prepared the material of blood, muscle, bone and fibre, and If it fsils to purvey that material in quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body sul- ,ere, and with it the mental faculties. Therefore pro tect ttie commissariat department. Don’t let tbe en emy obtain possession of it. It is easier to nrevent disease from gutting into an organ than to Opel It after it becomes a chronic fixture. Consider the first indicat 1 in of uneasiness in the stomach as a sign that Dyspepsia is preparing to attack, and batf e it at once with the GREAT RRPELLANT-- Bat if it is too late to prevent, remember, that It is not too late to cure, tt is believed that there la lio case of Chronic Indigestion that can withstand tie turnedfal operation of Hostqtter’s Stomach Bitters. This bel*is grounded on twelve years’ experien ’e of the efficacy or ths preparation. The lint instance of Its failure to give relief Is yet nuchronteled. If it ever had failed, the voluminous correspondence ad dressed to yie proprietors from fill parts of the UulteC States and' South America, would at leaqt include one letter expressing dissatisfaction. Bat no, there Is not ONE. The testimony, extending over a period of more than a dozen years, is all of the approving tenor. Certainly this Is a sufficient warrant tor claiming that the BITTER9 sre a SPECIFIC FOR INDIGESTION IN ALL ITS VARIETIES.
