HEALTH
As t he GREATEST OF TEMPORAL BLESSINGS, the
demand for this potent and agreeable Vegeta
Me TONIC and ALTERATIVE turn
been Immensely Increased.
Not only in this country, but In all other lands to
which commerce bean our flag, the peculiar merits
of the article are known and appreciated. It baa
tieen found salted to all climates, all localities, and
the needs or every class of society. Compounded o
the purest vegetable Ingredients, unalloyed with any
mineral salt or corrosive vegetable alkaloid, and com
bining the properties of a WHOLESOME STO
MACHIC, a GENTLE LAXATIVE, and an efflclent
ANTI-BILIOtJS AGENT, It Is endorsed by practice
Chemists aa the safest, and by unprejudiced physi
cians as the surest Preventative, Begnlatiag and
Restorative Preparation of the age.
The nature of Its . components Is the guarantee ol
ts Uarmieasnesa. It consists of the stimulating prin
ciple of sound Rye, medicated with the finest tonic,
antl-febrile, aperient, antiscorbutic, and anti-spas
modic herbs, roots and barks that botanical research
has yet developed for the use of man. Every vegeta
ble substance that enters into Its composition Is
culled snd selected with scrupulous care, and no
thing that Is not sound and perfect of its kind is used
nits manufacture.
In the factory at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, s sys
tem of Inspection far more thorough titan that
adopted by Government authority, as a test of the
quality or the great staples of life, la rigorously prac
tised. Every barrel of the cereal stimulant which
lorms the basis of the Bitters Is ascertained to be ab
solutely pure before it Is received Into the manufac
turing department, and every leaf and fibre of the
medicating ingredients scrutinized before the proses
ol lnfoaton commences. Such is the enormous ca
parity of the tanks in which the Ritters are preparea
that the proprietors are enabled to keep a large stock
on hand, and to supply the domestic and fore*gs
market with an article matured and mellowed by
tlma. Bfeace the fiery and biting flavor which at
taches to ordinary hitters, aud Which Is due to their
newness and the Interior quality or the drugs and
alcohol of Jhlch they are concocted, la never per-
coived In this mild and agreeable preparation. Ac
cording to the testimony of able chemists, the ee

STOMACH BITTERS
Are the only Medicinal Tonic In the World of which
that fluid is tlfe stimulating Ingredient.
To Dyspeptic Sufferers.
Under the general head of Dyspepsia may be clasted
all the varieties of indigestion. Its symptoms are
so various, and differ so much la different individuals
that it Is alutiist Impossible to classify them. In fact,
some ol theta are utterly lndescribablo. U may be
safely asserted, however, that half the diseases of
mankind spring from a disordered condition of the
stomach; and that the other half, whatever their
origin, react upon that sensitive snd important or
gan. Among the ordinary Indications of Dys: epsla
are flatulence, a bloated and lull feeling about the
stomach and abdomen immediately alter eating, a
gnawing sensation or a sente of boUowuess at tha
pit or the stomach between meals, a heavy dull teel-
Ing In the head, feeble or unsteady appetite, occa
sions nausea, restlessness during.: ht and a weary,
an refreshed feeling on rising In th' .uorning, palpi ta
tlon of tha boar:, depression -• Ind, sometimes
amounting to monomania, los- i crnory, confu
sion of thought, sour stomach, with it,-slog of food,
and a choking sensation in the throat, dimness of
eye, pain In the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli
nation for exertion, and sometimes emaciation and a
corpse-like pallor. These are a few of the direct
signs of Dyspepsia, bat es it Is generally complicated
with specific affections of the bowels, tbs liver and
the nerves, its victims havemauy additional torments
which are technically attributed to other causes.
The best suvlce that can be given to any one who
has the slightest predisposition to Dyspepsia, Is to for
tify Ids or her digestive organs by the daily use of
Hostetter’s Bitters.
The disease proceeds from a lack of vigor In the
stomach, and thla vitalising preparation will tone
and renovate that organ. 1? the gastric-apparatus Is
in good working order, and can perfectly dissolve
and thoroughly assimilate the food submitted to Its
operation, there will be no Dyspepsia. If It cannot
do this, it requires reinforcement, and the best of all
reinforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to.
The stomach is the commissariat of the system. It
applies the elements of life to the whole body. In
it Is prepared the material ol blood, muscle, bone
snd fibre, and If it rails to purvey that material In
quantity, and of a proper kind, the whole body suf-
,ers, and with It the mental faculties. Therefore pro
tect the commissariat department. Don’t let the en
emy obtain possession of It. It Is easier to prevent
disease from getting into an organ than to expel It
alter it becomes a chronic fixture. Consider tho
first lndicat 1 in of uneasiness In the stomach as a
sign that Dyspepsia la preparing to attack, and bstfe
it at once with the GREAT KBPELLANT.
But if It Is too late to prevent, remember that it la
not too late to cure. It la believed that there la no
case or Chronic Indigestion that can withstand f10
remedial operation of
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.
This belief la grounded on twelveyeats’ experience
of the efficacy of the preparation. The first instance
of lie failure to give relief Is yet uuchronicled. If it
ever had failed, the voluminous correspondence ad
dressed to the proprietors from all parts of the United
States and South America, would at least Include
one letter expressing dissatisfaction. Bat no, there
ts not one. The testimony, extending over e period
of more than a dozen jeers, Is all of tbs approving
tenor. Certainly this Is a .snfflclent warrant for
claiming that the BITTERS are a SPECIFIC FOR
INDIGESTION IN ALL ITS VARIETIES.

Household Medicine.
It Is a great fallacy to suppose that tbenanseoU
ness of a medicine is any proof aT its value as a res
toratlve. The truth Is, that ir the palate revolts
sgslDBt a remedy, It cannot do much good.
HOSTETTER’S BITTERS
Are not unpleasant to the taste, and'always soothe
and quiet, instead of irritating the stomach. Indeed
they are the beat known preventative of and core for
nausea. Their osefhlness ad a frmlly specific can
scarcely bo overrated. For sickness at the stomach,
•udden spasms, wind colic, hysterica, nervous head
ache, lassitude, tow spirits, snd the thousand and
one Uttle sUmente that are continually ocearring In
every family, there Is nothing comparable totiwm. A
whole medicine cheetftill of tinctures, essences, pow
ders, snd pills, ts not worth a single bottle of the
