The Dailv News and Herald.
THURSDAY MORNING. NOVEMBER 18.1888.
In General*
An absent-minded man, on foiling into a
river, sank twice before he recollected that
he could swim.
It is proposed to erect at San Francisco a
stupendous sea-wall, the estimated cost of
which is $22,000,000.
—Five hundred white people have just
emigrated from North Carolina in a body to
the Northwestern States.
—Au heir who has been for some time
wanted to an Eoglish baronetcy, and a fat es
tate thereunto belonging, has been found in
the person ot a butcher in NewSoutk Wales.
—Philosopher Greeley having been beaten
by John Morrissey for Congress, is proposed
by his lriends forU. S. Senator. Greeley has
frequently declared that be would accept no
office that was not conferred on him by a
direct vote oi the people, but that was be
fore Morrissey, the pugilist, “knocked spotB
out of him.” *
—A muss meeting of Fenians was held in
Washington on Friday last, at which General
Heath, Captain Gerser and others delivered
speeches. Resolutions were adopted pro
testing against the sentences of Lynch and
McMahou, and thanking the President and
Secretary Seward for their interference in
behalf of the prisoners.
—Captain Mew has made a report to the
Secretary of the Treasury of the causes of the
disaster to the steamer Evening Star. He at
tributes the loss in a measure to the misman
agement of the captain, and suggests radical
changes in the -existing laws regardiug the
equipment of sea-goiug vessels.
—A Washington dispatch says it is under
stood in the diplomatic circle that our rela
tions with England are improving. 'Ihe
British government has unofficially shown
such a friendly spirit that it is believed the
indemnity claims will be settled without an
ultimatum from this side.
—It is more than probable that such are
now our relations with the Juarez adminis
tration that United .States troops will soon
enter Mexico.
—The Virgiuia Allcghanies are swarming
with game. A parly from Albemarle, who
entered the mountains from Staunton, killed
twenty-one deer in flye days. One buck
weighed two hundred and fifty pounds.
--A colony of Poles are about locating in
the Wilderness, famous as the battle ground
between the contending armies of Lee,
Hooker and Grant. General Tochman, a
Polish exile in this country, is at the head ot
the colony.
Tho New York Herald’s Washington cor
respondent says: The President has almost
ceased th6 granting of pardons to residents
of the Southern States who were engaged in
the rebellion, and it is insinuated by those
qualified to speak on the matter that no par.
dons will be granted for an indefinite period
to those who led in the late iusurrection or
those who accepted office in the United
S ales, either ip a civil or military capacity,
previous to the rebellion. It is further
staled, on the same authority, that the
reasons which have influenced the President
in thus restricting the issue of pardons are of
a political character, resulting from the recent
elections.
—The private arms, trophies, and other
property taken irom the Fenians captured by
the steamer Michigan, in June last, and re
tained on board that steamer, are to be re
turned to their owners. Among this pro
perty are side arms worn through the late
civil war on many a hotly-contested battle
field, and highly prized on this account.
—There are now building in England, or
under orders to be built, twenty-six non
armor-plated vessels of war. The estimated
expenditure on these vessels from April 1st
last to March 31st next, is £25C,(iS2. From
flic return moved for by Mr. Laird relative
to iron-plated ships and batteries, it seems
that there are thirty iron-plated ships afloat,
and four building. The floating batteries
are the Erebus, Terror, Thunderbolt, and
Thunder.
—There is a movement on foot to secure a
thousand acres of land for the purpose of
settling a colony of. one hundred families
from Delaware in the Southwest. It is un
der the auspices of the “Christian Health Re
form Colonization Commission.”
—A strange rumor has been circulated of
late, in some quarters, concerning French di
plomatic intrigues, tending to effect com
plete reconciliation of the Christians in Tur
key with the Roman Chnrcb ( in virtue of
which the Pope on leaving Rome should re
move to Jerusalem, under French protec
tion, instead of taking refuge in Malta, un
der the flag of England, or in Granada, un
der the banner of Spain.

.SAVANNAH, October 1st, 1866.
THE J. B CAEY ft CO.’S
“NONPAREIL FRENCH GUANO
W HICH Is now offered to Planters possesses quali
ties which are peculiar to it slime, and render it
far superior to any other known, as has bean fully
proven by the “French Academy of Science#,” and
also by practical persona of enlarged experience in
every department of Agriculture.
Among the meritorious qualities which peculiarly
distinguish the “ Nonpareil French Guano,” may be
enumerated the following:
1st. It will promote the growth of Cotton, Corn, To
bacco, or any kind of gain or vegetable, equal to A
No. 1 Peruvian or Mexican,Guano, as has been fully
tested, at tbe same time being entirely free front the
objectionable properties of the above, so it is a Parma-
neot Improver of the Soil, instead at a stimulant
2d. It can be applied to tbe leaves aa well as tbs
toots of plants, without any danger of burning them,
if used properly, and we guarantee that wherever ap
plied the soil will retain Us moisture, aad will not
bake, even the most clayey.
3d. It will prevent Worms or Insects from destroy
ing either plant or. grain, aad wherever it la applied
every kind of worm or insect* will lns»s*tfe: dioap-
pear. Us properties being repugnant to insect Ilia of
every kind. This quality alone will be a great benefit
to Agriculture when It is estimated what vast numbers,
as Southern planters know, have lost their crop by in
sect depredations.
In a circular it Is Impossible to fully enter into the
merits of the “ Nonpareil French Guano,” but we as
sure the public that we have not exaggerated, aad it
only remains for those interested to test Its value,
when we feel confident that it will opidly supersede
all others.

To Dyspeptic Sufferers.
Under the geaerel hand of Dyepapffifi may be clamed
all tha varieties of Indigestion. Ita symptoms are
eo various, and dlfltor so much lu different fhdivldaals
that it ia almost impossible to clamlft them. In fact,
some of them are utterly Indescribable. It may be
safely asserted, however, that half the diseases of
mankind spring from • disordered oonffittan ef the
stomach; and that the other half; whatever their
origin, react upon that sensitive and important or
gan. Among th* ordinaap lndicaUona of Ops; epaia
are flatulence, a bloated and full feeling about the
stomach and abdomen Immediately After eating, a

amounting to monomania, font memory, confu

and a choking aeomtion In the throat, dimness ef
eye, pain In the diaphragm, feebleness and disincli

signs at Dyspepsia, hut aa tt ia generally complicated
with specific sanctions of the bowels, th* liver and
tbe seme, tts victims hsv* many additional torments
which are technically attributed to other causes.
The best advice that can be given to any one who
haa the slightest predtspoarton to Dyapspela, ia to for
tify his or her digestive organs bp the deux ute of
Hew tetter’s Bitters.
The disease proceeds from a lack of Vigor in tbe
stomach, and this vUallxtnf preparation will tone
and reuovste that organ. If tae gastric apparetui ia

operation, tome will be no Dyspepsia. If It cannot

reinforcing agents should be forthwith resorted to.
The stomach la the commissariat of tha system. It
