T -was fouud guilty. ^ ; J ‘ j ••e Court was adjourned until ten o’clock this •OlLg. f Ti&e»tre. There was a very good attendance at the theatre last evening, to witness the first appearance of the “Star Stock Company" on our boards. It was a bold under taking on their part to present one of Shakspeare’s tragedies on their opening night, when all must .have felt themselves strangers not only to the audience but also to the stage upon which they performed, but the highly creditable manner in which they acquitted themselves afforded the most gratifying evidence that they did not overrate their strength. As a whole, we have uot seen as good a stock company on our stage for many years. All are respectable, while the lead ing members of the company rank far above medi ocrity. The part of Macbeth, by Mr. Harry Langdon, was a very excellent performance, as was also that of Lady Macbeth by Miss Annie Senter. The princip.il characters were well sustained by Mr. Dow, as Macduff, and Mr. Lowry, as Banquo. They may not take it as a compliment, but we must say that we have rarely ever seen a brace of more "excel’ lent cut-throats" than those personated by Mr. Hen derson and Mr. Osbaldistine. Indeed, all the subor dinate characters were well up to the mark. The Witches’ chorus aud incantation scene, in which the excellent acting and fine singing of the charming Hecate (Miss Mason) was a prominent feature, elicited universal admiration. * Suspicions Characters. Henry Williams and Frederick Walker were ar raigned before His Honor E. C. Anderson, Mayor, yesterday morning, on the charge of being suspicions haracters. Tho officer who caused the arrests jaid>j they had been following the circus for the purpose Of pocket picking, and said they had been pointed out to him. He watched their actions and* found them several times among the crowd, evidently intent on stealing. A witness said he saw the same two men in the vi cinity of one of the auctions, and the hand of one of the prisoners was found in a lady’s pocket. In an swer to a question as to whether he recognized the prisoners, the witness said he was sure of them, and if he’d examine the head of one of them he thought he might find tho mark of his stick, a taste of which he had given him. They were both turned over to the County Court for examination and trial. Fuom New Yoke.—The steamship Florida arrived here last evening from New York and reports having experienced very rough weather. We were glad to find onr old friend, Mr. Julian Tufts, on board as Purser, and also that he had not forgotten the press. He wiR please accept our thanks for files of New York papers. Although pleased to see Mr. Tufts, we are sorry to find him in such bad health. The rough weather tho ship experienced tended to irritate his disease, and he wag in snch a condition that he is compelled to return to New York by the steamer this morning. He has our best wishes for a speedy return to health. Fighting in the Market.—Iu the Mayor’s Court, yesterday, awhile mau and a negro were charged with fighting in the market. Tke white man charged' the negro with "‘being the aggressor, and the negro charged the white man with striking him first. Sev eral witnesses were examined TOE both parties, but the negro appeared t& htfvd"th6 best evidence. After hearing it all, His Honor dismissed the case and di vided the costs between both the parties. . * \ Exports. j-..; „ | Per brig G F Geery, for New York—274 hales up land cotton, 85,ooo ft lumber.
