Those who havo opportunities for obtaining valuable infor mation in regard to the growing crops, the working of tho fre«-lat>or system, and kindred matters, of gen eral Interest, will eonfer s favor by communicating the same to ns. Railroad Meeting—Important to Sa vannah. We published on Saturday last the pro ceedings of a meeting of the citizens of Baia- bridge, Ga., held on the ISth inst., for the purpose of considering the propriety of in structing the City Council to take stock in the Atlantic and Gulf Road. It will be seen that the Council was instructed to apply to the Legislature for tbo authority to issue S20,u00 of hoods, and, if granted, to invest the bonds in stock, upon the condition that the company wiil complete the road to Bain- bridge by the first of September, 1867. This action on the pait of the citizens of the flourishing town of Bainbridge is alike creditable to their enterprise and 8agacity,for, as they say, the commercial and other in terests of their growing town depend very much upoo the speeedy completion of the road toils limits, which at present only reaches to Thuinasvilie. (This contemplated exten sion is destined to be not only advantageous to Bainbridge, but of incalculable importance in the future to the materia! interests of Sa vannah. It will be the mcau9 of tapping com mercially one of the wealthiest and most en- Jigiilencd poitious of that magnificent country which is traversed by the Flint and Chatta hoochee rivers, in this State, and the Chipolu river in West Florida, the products of which have heretofore found their way to Apalachi cola for transshipment to New Orleans and New York. Wc do not hesitate to say that, when the Atlantic and Gulf Road is com pleted to the point indicated, an amount ot business and travel will be secured to this city which will astonish even those who now entertain intelligent views on the subject. The wonder to us is that our business men, and especially our largo property holders, have not before this taken, measures to in sure the immediate prosecution of the work, the completion of which involves conse quences of such great importance to the trade and general prosperity of our city. There is, doubtless, some excuse just now for our merchants not moving in aid of this val uable enterprise, as, unfortunately, the for tunes of most of them have been terribly shattered by tho late war; but for our large real estate holders there is less excuse for not advancing a proportionate share of the funds required. The rents now being received by property holders are enormous, which ena bles them to recuperate more rapidly. Hence, longer to abstain from aiding the projectors in the accomplishment of an enterprise which is sure not only to immensely increase the Raise of the city, but to add, also, much to the permanent value of their estates, will exb ibit cither a degree of selfishness not very com mon. or a blindness to their material inter ests which is mo-;t surprising. There yet remains wc do not know exactly how much, ready money to complete forthwith this im portant work. Let our real estate holders and m-rehante and capitalists call on Major Screven at once and tender him what is needed in addition to the .$20,000 by the cor porate authorities ot Baiubridge, and llieu the road can be completed to its present western terminus, as originally iutended, in less than twelvo months, the character ol the ground over which the road is located being so favorable. The same commendable promptness and liberality which secured an early consummation of the Florida connec tion, if extended to the enterprise under con sideration, will be productive of results equally advantageous to the best interests of Savannah aud contribute greatly to the de veiopment of the splendid agricultural re sources of the country through which it will pass. FtXIANISMReDIVTYUS.—Fenianiam appears to be |roviving in Washington city. Consid erable sums of money have been raised and forwarded to New York. Meetings are being hclu in public and-Sn private, and are being attended !by many of the leaders of the Brotherhood. Taken together with the as surances of those who pretond to know the nature, aud extent of the movements, these indications would seem to portend early and vigorous action in some direction. The centres and delegates of the Fenian Brotherhood in the vicinity of New York, held a meeting at the Apollo Rooms, in Prince street, on Sunday night, aud ad dressed a final appeal for aid in the revolu tion which is about to be inaugurated in Ire land to all citizens of the Metropolitan district and New Jersey. Taxation.—During the fiscal year ending June SO, 1866, the government collected from the people of the United States over $500,000,000 in the shape of taxes. For the present year the amount from these tources is estimated at six hundred and fifty millions of dollars. No sensible man will pielead that the government of the United Slates has any legitimate use for half this surnper annum. A dispatch from New Orleans to the New York World announces that the receipts of cotton since November 1st do not warrant an estimate for the entire crop greater than 1,500,000 bales. The dispatch slates that planters are sending in their cotton freely, hut that many of them already report their supply as exhausted. A band ot regulators in Marion county, Kentucky, has been organized, and three men have been Luug. Others in the county jail would probably be aoon served in the same summary manner. An attempt was made on Friday night to take three prisoners from the Lebanon jail and bang them, but it proved unsuccessful. Tub Canal Commissioners at Albany, New York, announce that the canala will be closed on the 12 th proximo, except the Champlain Canal, which will be cloeod on the 5th. The Cful Righto The Equal Bights Convention reassembled at Albany on Wednesday. Mr. Parker Pills- bury offered n resolution protesting against the adopting of the constitutional amend ment by the State Legislature. In tire even ing session a resolution was adopted to pre sent this proteat to the State Legislature, and also a declaration of right to be repre sented by woman as well as men in the Convention to revise the Constitution. Mrs. Cady Stanton, Charles L. Remond, Parker Pillsbnry and Lucy Stone, then fannied their respective oracular thunderbolts, and tbc Convention adjourned «'»• die. Tbe Convention decided almost unani mously that the nauiy laws of the State should be repealed, and interest for money be tbe special subject of a written agreement between tbe parties. In tbe absence of uuy agreement tbe legal rate of interest should be aix per cent It waa contended that cap ital would not come to the State until the rate of interest for money was left to ifae con trol of supply and demand, and without money labor could not be employed. Tbe Whig says the Convention is an emi nently respectable assemblage—in number, character and intelligence. Sale or thk Yacht Young America.—The well known fast sailing yacht Young America has been purchased, says a Boston .paper, by Messrs C. D. Boggs A Co., of Boston, for a gentleman in Savannah, Ga., to be converted into a pilot boat. She sailed from this port on Monday afternoon last. She waa a great favorite with pleasure parties, and it will be hard to supply her place. She will be missed next trammer. A Bankxupt Law Dm bid by the South. A memorial, it is said, will be presented to Congress from prominent citizens of the South asking for the passage of a general bankrupt law. The devastation of the war and the failure of the cotton aud corn crops have almost hopelessly impoverished the cot ton States for the present. Many of tbe Washington correspondents ore specu lating os to what wiil be the contents of the Presi dent’s forthcoming annual message, and soma them broadly assert that be will mike terms with Congress on the restoration policy, to view of the re sult of the recent State elections. This, too, la speculation, and it were therefore better to trail for positive information—for the message Itself. It will be remembered that in the many speeches which the President made iu his late trip North and West, he said be hod no new policy to announce, and that his future would be best indicated by hi* pool course.
