SIMS & CO., COTTON FACTORS, Ifar*l Stores, Shipping and General COMMISSION MERCHANTS. W Eare now offering for sale the most valuable ¥ EKTLLIZEH eve- put before our pluming community. It bac l>een honestly and fairjy tried by gcaTlemen of intel ligence, whose certificates are beyond any question. It Is an article of comparatively recent manipnla- llon, and it?- full merits have not been made apparent from * want oi correct know ledge as to tne muet ad vaniafceous manner or using if; but even with this year’e experiment*, when the season* fiare been most nnprotrfiicup, it3 vain- as 21 Tfertil zer has been f rlHiupluini ly proven. We ore ttic dole ageutd for this Manure, known as The Eureka AHuayaiated Bone leper Phosphate of Lime, forOewgfa Florida. We ask tiie attention of every planter 'o thefol- lowing ccrbficutea, from gentlemen of the highest respectability: Bikimtille, Burke Co., Nov. 1,1SCG HEbMb*. F. W. &L98 «k CO.: Dear Sirs: Your favor ol the ldttuiU., asking me to give you 1 lie result of my exoerience in the ose of the Eareka Arntnoniaterl bone Super-Phosphate of Lime, came duly to hand. I used this Fer tilizer under cotton nod as a tqp dreeing for corn, under a fcW garden vcsre*an!ca and a por tion )f my turnip crop. With all these crop* I found it acted as finely as the manufacture!a claim for It. With all the serious disasters tfc.it befeir ih this year in a protracted drouth and rust in cotton,, rny crops were largely augmented r *y its use. My corn crop, 1 aui satisfied, was doubled by the applica tion, and had the rains continued .0 have kept the manure diluted, I think it would have trebied tuc crop of corn on old exhausted land. With it this year 1 have made enough corn for the use of my plantation, whereas I should have had to bay largely to have kept np the same working force next year. Its stimulating qualities were very perceptible in the rapid growth and early development 01 all plants upon which it was used: and if it is the permanent Fertilizer that is claimed for it, aud doubtless it is, I would prefer it to Pernvlau Guano or other te:tiiizers more volatile and costly. Comparing its 'effects upon my crop with what I witnessed of those manured with Peruvian Guano, I certainly am satisfied with its results—al though it needed the rains to have kept It diluted, and all the crops did hot receive th'Jfull benefit of the application. If you are enabled to furnish the same article another year I would like to try it again. Yours, very respectfully, WM. B. JONES, IIehkdon, Burke Co., Ga. July 24,1060. F. W. SIMS A CO.: * Cents: As to the action of the Fertilizer, I have becu highly gratified. Its effects have been very dis tinct at every stage of the crop, anJ its proprietors have been peculiarly fortunate in the production of a Fertilizer that Is equally bent tidal on qpm and cotton. It Id quite fctiiuuhiling and yet mild, possessing the advantage of guano (Peruvian) 111 the first, and superior to it In being free from the heating, burning effect, so disastrous iu a drouth. My expeliciice is that this American guano is too slow in its act! ns for corn, but it is excellent for cot ton. This arises from the fact that the Ainericad va rieties, as they are known, possess more of the phos phaU's aud less of ammonia than the Peruvian. This accounts lor the quicker action of the Peru via njipoii the crop, but'Tfce less permanent effect 011 the Soil. What will l»e the inllticncc of the Eureka remains to be seen, ;ih this is my first year’s trial-; but my obser vation so fur K that no mature cut be happier in its effects 011 the crop at every stage of its progress Such. I tiiiuK. is the linpros-ioii of others wno have tried it In this section, with whom 1 have con vers. d. 1 have only used it lids year oil cbm aud cotton, the yield of wh[ch, I think, would have been doubled aud even 11 cbled ii the seAsons had been favorable. But manure oi no kind can make a crop without lain; and hence whatever may be the result of the year’s labor, my opinion of the Eureka above given will nor he affected. I want to try it upon turnips this /all. Can you send me ft couple of barrels more ol it to this sta tion, No. 0, U. It. It. Yours, &c. f J. Ii. JONES. M1 Li.EDCEvj i.i.k, November 1, 186C. Messrs. S1M.T& CO.; Gentlemen : Yours or the loth ultimo reached day or ho before I was tukeu down with fever chills, and since getting up, my time was sotaki up with matters prep tn.tory 10 coming here, tuat I Usd to postpone an answer until now You ask me 10 give yon my opinion of the value of the Eureka Phosphate of Lime, as compared with the Guano, based (ipt-u ihe results ol the present year's opera- tiotiM. I luve not now time for a Tull reply to your enquiry, i remark that, in July, 1 think, 1 wrote out my opinion then upon the very points you suggest. If you will refer to lhai letter, I think you will find ail that I uesd say in answer to your enquiry. As fa vorable as that opinion was then, 1 have no reason, from the iatrr developments of the crops, to change any part of it. If you cannot fiffd It, nod will inform tue, 1 wifi, as soon as I write the opinion you have asked. Yours, Ac., J. B. JONES. Thomson. Columbia Co., Ga., Nov. 6, lSUJ. Mass tea. F. W. SIMM * 00 : Genthunen: According lo promise, I give you the result of cxjniriinenL.1 made ihls presmt year with 1 he five tonsot “Eureka Ammoifiatbd Bone Super I'hoHpiiate of Litre,’* put chased ol yon last spring. A« you are aware, the putt .season with us wa* un- pritceiieiiud v,\t weather in the spring, and excessive drouth— commencing I11 June—the 1 titer fat*! gen erally 10 tmiiiured ertms. 1 nj piled the Eureka to &. field of thirty acres of rorton, Two tons to the field, holiig about' one hundred and forty pounds to the acre. Tuc field (-tubblc) nos lirckcu up well, and iu«* phospnste drill* d by h nd in Kviug off to ridge, hev Tdl rows were leit without its application to test U. Tim difference between th«se rows and the bal ance of rr.e field could he discerned a considerable dl.slance all the summer, and plainly so iu gathering the crop. And I am confident th*»» tho Phosphate on the thirty acres has paid me fifty percent. I nppiicd a ton of me Pht spimtc to corn, after the coin w.is up, Indore the first plowing, and the re suit I11 tho growing of the corn was Hie same. In order/however, to make a ttioroaglffeFt of it with other Fertilizers, 1 procured Peruvian Guano aud Phoenix Island Guauo. \ applied the Peruvian Gua no to one acre of coin, superintending It in person, and the Phosphate to two *icrcs by the aide of the first, in nearly equal qua nti tier, applying about -ne- lourth less of the Peruvian. The r*:iult was that the Plmsplmte equaled the Peruvian Guano, the ears of corn being as huaw. I have used several kinds of the many commercial manurcu offered, and cor^ider the Eureka the best at tide. I would as leave have it lor corn and cotton the Peruvian. J also tried it 011 watermelons and vegetables wi-.n the same success. I should recom mend that, for cotton, the Phosphate be pul at least an Inch under the seed, 200 pounds to the acre. And for corn, apply about * tabb-epoonful when planting laud wit It the grain, at k a u»i«ixinch» h from the grain. Very truly, yonrs Miscellaneous. a B.CC, A 0O E. F.
