The ,following extract, wflf be found interesting: ! , A reference to the condition of. the chops of 1866 may properly be made at this lime, though it is too early to obtain completdre- tnrns ol com and cotton and a few other products. • j Tbe regularly monthly crop returns of the statistical division of this Department have hitherto included only the States east ot the Rocky .Mountains and- north of Virginia,. Tennessee and Arkansas. Hereafter all iwill be included, except the Pacific Stales, from' which returns cannot lie received, in scasdD to go into current jnonitfly exhibits with! tbe other States. Due attentfon will be given, however, to tbe colleotiou of agricultural statistics of these new, productive and pro gressive States, with their peculiar and'ex ceptional indust)leg, from which so much is expected in the future development of the country’s resources. J The wheat crop of 1863 in the twenty-two Stctes reported was very large; ip 1804, tae estimate was, in roupd numbers, 13,000,000 bushels le&s, or 160,000,000; In ; 805,148,000,-' 000; and the present estimate is still further reduced to 143,000,000. Returns from, the eleven Southern States, so far as received, warrant an estimate of 17,000,000 for ithat section. Texas has produced a large crop; the other Southern States less than half the average product. The crop of the Pacific, States is very heavy, leaving a tar greater surplus for export than the entire amount.of. the crop of 1860. Prom all tbe data received in the Department ihe total amount of wheat produced in 1866 may be estimated at 180,- 000,000 bushels. The crop of 1859 was 173,- 060,000, and that of the present year, at the ratio ot increase from 1850 to 1860, should have reached 242,000,000. The supply is about five bushels to each inhabitant, or hall a bushel less than in 1859. The corn crop is moderately large in quan tity, but deficient in quality, and may he es timated at 880,000,000 bushels, about 40,000,- 000 more than that of 1859. it would have been an excessive product bat for the re tarding influence of cool and rainy weather, and the consequent damage by frost si In some Southern Slates a very small yield is reported, while in Texas the quantity i'simore than au average. In the Northwestern States the injury from early frosts was severe While there will be a sufficiency of todd'for man, the supplies for the domestic animals will be unnsually abundant. The hay crop, slightly deficient in some sections, is large in others, and ot more than average quality,-and the estimated total product o? oats is sixty per cent, greater than in 1859. The products of gardens and the yield of potatoes; aud other roots are also in excess of former years.- in . Vie- Tke tlar Lstv M WWllN araiMrs ‘ ’ tWr- fcno#i*rta tbe bill v* «r *. Canary Hird. The Washington Star of Tuesday evening has the following tragic particulars:. “Mrs. Martha Ferguson went to the resi dence of Miss Mary E. Cecil and a contro versy arose between them about the former’s husband. Miss C. seized Mrs. Feigus iu, and attempted to put her out, when ihe drew a revolver, presented it at Miss Cecil's breast, and snapped it three limes. J u at ice Thompson held the prisoner to bail in $1,000 for her appearance at eburt. “From tbe subsequent statement of Mrs. Ferguson it would appear that she is about 37 years of age and had been living in Wash ington with her husband, and they had with them the complainant, a young girl. About a year ago the husband, it is stated, sent his wife to his friends in Ohio for her health. There she received information alleging that her husband ‘ was living with Miss Cecil as man and wife. She immediately came to Washington to look- after him. Upon going to his house she found he had left the city. She traced him to B iltimore and back sgaiD, and thinking to find bito at the -bouse where the complainant lived with her mother, went there. There she met the complainant and saw a canary bird, which she underetiood tier husband had given the complainant, who, out of respect to the donor, had called it “Jimmy,” which exasperated the-prisoner, and she took the bird and wrung its bead off. High words ensued, between ner and Abe complainant, and the latter seized her to put her out of tbe house; She drew a revolver and presented it, and tried to fire it, but it ■napped two or three times.
