Another trial was given to this engine, bf the mem
bers of the Germania FireComy*tiy, ftatetday after
noon. Tho engine ^a placed in front of the fire ping
and Whitaker street, and. after
“ ^ waantarted and a
frieh nozzle,'and with fifty feet of hose, she threw|a
distance of two hundred and eight feet The working
of the engine gave general satisfiKtion, not only to the
members, but to those of onr citizens interested in
such matters.
Hose was then laid from the engine to the Exchange
building, and “everything being iu readiness, the
branch pipe was pointed at the steeple, and after play
ing but a short time the water was forced to the
lieiglitU Ail, the vane, and immediately after was thrown
at least five feet above the bird on top of It The
hop was then reeled, the fires drawn and the eqgine
housed, tlie‘’members all appearing 'satisfied with
their afternoon performance.’
Yesterday morning, shortly before seven o'clock,
an alarm of fire was created by the burning out of a
foul Chimney in tbe Fourth District, and last evening,
aW»t half-past eight, the bells sounded auother alarm
ui the Third District. This turned out to be nothing
more than the burning out of a chimney on Bronghton
Street,;near*K^rjtgomery. The building was ?f brick
and thu loot’ slate, and consequently there was no
damage. The firemen were on hand, however, in
large numbers, ready for any emergency, and we par
ticularly noticed the largo number of the Metropoli
tans.! We understand that Engineer Willink had
-ste&tii up on the Bartow iu the short space of three
and a half minutes, aud the engine ready for service.
Fortunately their services were not required, but it
is gratifying to see the spirit evinced by our white
firemen, aud with two such engines as the Bartow
and Waver, aiyteU l>y the Washington, Oglethorpe and
Mechanic, our citizens need hare no fears of any con
fiagr^.iou of a serious nature.

Savannah ('otton Market.
Savannah, December 11, 1866.
Tin re has been no change in the market to-day, al
though rather more inquiry. Holders of desirable
lots of cot tons could sell on a basis of 31c. for Savan-
iif*h middlings,,although *re have heard of sales at
lower prices. Gold tending downward makes buyers
demand a decline, which holders are unwilling to con
cede. We bear, of sales of about 50() bales on tbe
Abdvu basis.
