A New Steameb.—The Bandy Moore, consort of
the Jails St. Clair—a description of which ws gave
some time since—intended tor the Home Line be
tween this city and Augusta,arrived here yesterday, in
charge of Captain Moody. She is the same model
and was built by the same parties as the Julia, and
will immediately be put upon the route by Mr. M. A.
Cohen, the Agent.

lost., and a variety of the most amusing comic picto
rial publications, including Jolly Joker, Nick-Nax, for
the holidays, and Jonathan’s Yankee Notions. Also
Beadle’s Monthly Magazine for January.
Personal.—We had the pleasure yesterday of re
ceiving a visit from Mr. Btockton, the courteous and
enterprising publisher of that sterling and popular
journal, the Constitutionalist, of Augusta.

-»charge of entering the house of a lady and draw-
l pistols. The officers who arrested them did so at

There was a good demand to-day, though sales were
not very extensive, holders being firm in their ideas.
We hear of sales of about five hundred bales, and quote
as follows:

Augusta, December 18,1866.
There has been, in the aggregate, a very active week
in the cotton market. The market stiffened somewhat
on Tuesday, and advanced on Wednesday >i(2ilc.,
which continued up to Friday morning, when prices
fell back to the quotations of last week, and eo con
tinued to this morning, notwithstanding the favor
able news in this morning’s papers from Liverpool.
The scarcity of money is tho great drawback upon the
trade.

and 76 bales at 32#c. The receipts are 725 bales.

Driving Through Lanes.—Notwithstanding sov-
ral wttgi’uers have been fined for making thorough-
ires of the lanes, contrary to ordinance, and the lact
!i.at notice has been repeatedly given, almost every
<kj some ono is brought before His Honor on this
tharge. The most of the offenders have been negroes
we suppose they do not read the papers.
Yesterday morning, A. Miller aud Wm. Kane,
ijred, were charged with this offence. They plead
:uuranc» of the law, and wero probably truthful
They were fined each two dollars.
A. Bacon, colored, was charged with the same
(7ence. He said be was a stranger in the city, and
father-in-law 'was merely taking him around the
city to allow him bow to drive. The old man was
c-ikd aud said he had lived here for several years and
there had been a law against driving through
oaes, but he had not read the papers lately, and
’•iitught tho law was not enforced. The defendant

Mr Perkins has on hand an excellent assortment of

Larceny.—A young negro named Green waa before
H.s Honor, the Mayor, yesterday morning, charged
with stealing a kitt of mackerel. The fact of his haw-

•aid a white man gave tbe kitt to him to aeU.
In answer to a queetion of Hie Honor, the boy said he
•'line from Augusta two months ago; that hie parents
were |dead, |but he had a mothar and aister. This
was the fourth time he had been before the Meyor,
who ordered him to be sent to Colonel Crofton for an
