The officer said he caught tho defendant while running, and that he picked up a bag which the Men,lam had dropped. .4 young man living in the m iso said he watched the defendant looking over tho and that finally the negro got into the yard. Tho nitness said that the people living next door had lost , .oral turkeys within a short time. Defendant was cti.-d twenty dollars, or to be put at labor for thirty with hall and chain accompaniments: Disorderly. It will be recollected that at the last meeting of T iijjicil a petition was received irom several ot the Vst citizens otjjavunnali presenting a house in Abet ern street, near South Broad, known as tho 'T<i Hours,," as a nuisance, and asking its abatement. It Inc become a grievous nuisance of late from the feet having constant disturbances, and almost over; ■v. k a ball or party, much to the annoyance of the inhabitants of that section. In the Police Coutt yos tit-day a couple of young men were arraigned on Ihc .argo or being disorderly iu this house. The officers iking the arrest knew nothing of the matter more titan that the rattles bad been sprung, and they were .ailed upon to make the arrest, Jtiss Alice Bcntly, the proprietress, testified that six men bad come to her door and dtminded admittance, which she refused, whereupon one of the defendants intshed the door open and admitted his companions, fhev then went into tho reception rooms and opened tk ■ pianos aud woro generally noisy, when she sprung her rattle and brought the officers. One of her board ers was present, but knew nothing more of the mat ter. Hi« Honor asked the defendants why they forced their way iuto the hou-o, aud they said tho door was opened to'them. They were asked if they know the names of their companions, when they replied they did. Til-.- attendants were fined twenty dollars each, and ordered to be committed until the balance of the party acre arrested. A Good Cltsnce for Investment. We are gratified to learn that the gentlemen owning the Georgia Chemical Works, of this city, have taken the necessary steps towards incorporating under the nautn of the " Georgia Soap and Chemical Company, !or the purpose of increasing their capital, and en- ‘argmy their business, and have elected Gen. Mercer. President, with the following Board of Direc tors: H. W. Mercer. G. A. Mereor, D. G. Purse, H. Winn, W. I). Howden, and J. H. Parsons. The capital is $25,000—in shares of $60 each. Some j:„] shares are for sate. As their by-laws provide that the liabilities shall never exceed tho sssetB, it affords a chance lor a safe and profitable investment. The names of the gentlemen interested are a sure guar iiutee of ihu good management of the company, We have before called the attention of the public to the fact, that after three months trial, we have found the soup manufactured at their works equal, if not superior, to any made North. if. re ia a chance for those who are always asking uhy we cannot manufacture necessaries at home, not only to aid in the establishment ol an important branch of domestic industry, but also to obtain a snre return for their Investment. Improper Use of Sewers. People, will not learn that sewers are not receptacles for slops and filth, and consequently have to suffer the penalty. Ann Lee, a colored girl, was charged b fore His Honor, Mayor Anderson, yesterday, with th.s offence. She had been bonded out from the barracks and failed to make her appearance in court yesterday. Tho officer making the arrest stated the girl had emptied her slops into* tho sewer at Bull street and Congress street lane. She was ordered to be fined ten dollars and the bond put in suit tor fell- ing to moke return. A negro boy named Edwards was charged with tho same offence. He said he was directed to usd the sewer by his employer, who was called in and Btaied to the Court that he thought he was right in empty ing the stuff iu the sewer. His Honor placed the name of tlie proprietor on the docket, thd fined him five dollars. The negro was discharged. County Court. This court met yesterday morning at ten o’olock. Judge Russell presiding. Bam. 8nipe. a nogro, charged with vagrancy, was brought up, when tho Solicitor. Mr. Ferriil, entered a nolle pros., stating a gentleman had offered to take the boy* who waa not of sound mind, under his protection. The case of Wm. Mungin, colored, charged with assault and battery, was called, and the defendant not appearing, the bond Whs ordered to be estreated. The court was then adjourned until this morning a ten o’clock. , EULABGMENT.-Dr. Llppmsn, Whose advertise ment or goods for the holidays appears in another column, has recently enlarged his store to ensblo him to accommodate large importations of drugs, per fumery and fenev articles from Paris, London ^Ger many and Scotland, now constantly arriving, bebeing agent for many of the leading chemist* an per fnmers of Paris. We have been requested to call the attention of tho authorities to the reckless manner in which dray s are driven thropgh our streets, to the great danger of Children and others. Especially around the Pulaski House corner, and that at the Post Office, horses are driven at a fearfully rapid rate, and apparently with out any care, a; the various collisions with the lamp posts will verify. Yesterday afternoon, about three o'clock, as ono of these drivers, with live bales of cotton on his dray, and ho seated on tlio top, was proceeding rapidly along East Broad street, in tho vicinity of the Central Rail road depot, a boy about twelve years of age was knocked down and one wheel passed over him, injuring him in a shocking manner. A gentleman who witnessed the transaction says he halloood to tho negro to stop, but he paid no attention to his warning, and even after running over the child, passed on until he was ar rested. The little sufferer was taken to his home, corner Jones and West Broad streets, whero he re ceived every attention. Alihough seriously injured, it is hoped he wiU recover. The negro was taken to the barraoks, and will have a healing this morning.
