On Saturday evening the labors ef the My MM
gers of the fair for the children of the Q-a«H. Memo
were brought to a cloee. Although aconriderabto
sum was realized, yetthe “ tightness ” in the money
market was felt perceptibly. The m set of
>ks on Mrs. GuUmartin’a table was ihifraffled. the,
chances not being all taken. The list is still open,
and when full the books will be put up. Hi* splendid
six shooter shot gun, wi mn fanturM expressly tie
fair by Mr. S. Colt and presented to the mai>a$*n» did
not gopff, as we anticipated, cm Saturday night. We
were informed, however, by Miss Diuon, the hdy in
charge, that the chances were tiken, end
the gun will remain at the Metropolitan Billiard
Rooms until Tuesday night, when it will be raffled.
Mr. F. Schcnck and Mi*. H. Butler, the polite and
gentlemanly attendants at those rooms will take
pleasure in receiving the names of gentlemen.
The cakes of Mrs, Henderson and Mrs. Cercopely
did not realize as much as they should have done, but
wer<* all sold. The handsome doll on Mrs. Hender.
son’s table was won by Mr. Jos. M. Kinchley, and we
heard more than one lady regret their own lack of
good fortune in not winning the much coveted prize.
Mrs. Read’s table, as also that of Mrs. M’Mahon,
were nearly depleted, and what remained of their
stock was auctioned off by Mr. Henry Blun, and
brought very fair prices. The goods remaining on
on the table of Mrs. Guilmartin were auctioned off by
F. Rip Sweat.

His Honor, Mayor Anderson, attended to them
very short order.
A young man, apparently a sailor, was charged
with being drunk in the streets oil Friday uiglit,
also very noisy. The proprietor of a hoarding house
said Ihe defendant was very boisterous, and that when
lie remonstrated, he received a blow side of tbe bead
Tho defendant was lined five dollars.
Win. Frazer, a negro, was charged with throwing a
brick and striking a young man ^ju a store in the
neighborhood of Yamacraw. Tha testimony of ’.he
witnesses was very eomhetiug. aud the negro denied
baring been in tho store at all. His Honor asked one
ol tlie witnesses if they sold liquor to negroes. He
said yes! when His Honor remarked lli;it if they sold
liquor to negroes they must expect to have disturb
ances and disorders in their place. Bill offered two
or three witnesses to prove where he had been. He
was fined Ibree dollars.
S. battisie, a hard looking negro, was charged with
aUcmiuin-’ to steal from a store window. Tueov. uei

through tbe window where there were some botth-s
uf whiskey, and lie made pursuit. The negro has
been but a few days out of jail, and probably likes
the hare so well he wants to go back. He was
sonteuced to thirty days at tho Unitod States Bar
