Savannah, Thursday, Dec. 27,1866.
Exchange.—Owing to the unsettled condition of
the gold market, and the difficulty of negotiating:
little is doing In sterling. We quote at 139#141 for
first-class bills. The banks are checking at sight on
New York at off, and baying at X@X off
Gold—Is very unsettled and declining, and buyers
deterred from entering the market. We qnote baying
rate, 30; selling, 33.

Bagging.—Planters only are now purchasing, and
sellers are holding but small lota. Shipments are
being made from the North to realize, find the stock
la heavy. The market is dull. Orders are filled at
32X@33c far Gnnny, <0#46c for Tncker, Carter 4 Uo„
and 36 to 42c for Dundee.
Cbmx—A fair retail local demand continues, with
moderate shipments to supply orders. Toe stock is
at present large, a cargo of Bio, direct importation,
being just arrived, though not yet offered; We quote
Rio 26#27c, and Java 4V#43c. Prices are depressed,
owing probably to the downward tendency of gold
and the increased stock.
Floux.—The demand ia moderate, the supply large,
and prices firm. Borne dealers are holding for higher
figures. We quote superfine 10# $11, < xtrs 12#$14,
western 16@$18, and new Georgia 8@$8 50 per sack.
Fish —The stock is sufficient for the present limited
demand. We quote unchanged: Mackerel, No. 1, bar
rels, (22; half barrels, $11#U 60; No 2, barrels, $19
to (20; half barrels. $10; No, 3, large, barrels, $17;
half barrels, $8 50 to $9. Herrings have declined to
65o for No. 1, and 76c for scaled, per box.
Gxain.—A better inquiry has existed during the
week, and prices have improved, though tag market
is rather tin settled, AU descriptions are scarce, par
ticularly Maryland white, which is offered and taken
at $1 45#1 60; Western white, $1 40#1 46. and yel
low $1 40 per bushel lrom store. Oats arc retailing at
85#90o from store.
Hay.—From three to four cargoes of Northern have
been received, and one of Eastern, a large quantity of
the former being in bad order and nnanuanle tor ship
ping. The demand ia mnch improved. We quote
Northern at $1 60#1 S3 lrom wharf, and Eastern at
(1 60@1 70. V
Habdwabe.—The supply is very heavy, and the de
mand good. Nails have declined to 7 > t c, and shot to
(9 18 for drop, and $3 40 for buck. Iron is unchanged,
and we continue quotations—7X#8c for fcaedes, and
6>ic for refined; lead is quoted at 12Sc.
Hides, 4o.—Hides, wool and w ax are in good de
mand at firmer quotations. Tallow is dull cud still
declining—now quoted at 10c per lb.
Lasd.—The stock Is good, with a fair demand at U@
12c for pressed, and 14©14Xc for pure leaf. The
market la still depressed, though price's cow appear to
have touched bottom-
Lime.—One cargo has beon received lrom Maine
during the week, and is offered in lots -.t $3 23 per
barret Tbo demand is very light.
Molasses.—lTioes range somewhat lower, tbo
stock being anjte ample, and tbe new supply coming
in more freefy than was anticipated. Wv quote Cuba,
30#64c; English Island, 75©80c in bbls auu ball do.
Onions—Are firmer, tbe demand light, and the
stock fair. We quote at $3<a)3 25 per bbl.
Poxx.—We can hear of no prime pork offering.
Mesa is quoted at $24#25 per barrel. The stock is
rather limited, with a light demand, and a receding
market.
Potatoes.—The stock is light, aqd tbo demand
more active, with hetter pnees. We quot - r.omitially
at $3#$3 60, though sales of small lota have been
made at higher figures.
Rice.—Very lew sales of clean are effect’ \ and only
ofsmall lots at 9>4#10c according to qnalitv. Thestcck
is still large for the demand, though great !y reduced
by heavy shipments to New Orleans. There is little
enquiry for rough rice, and a fair offering stock. We
quote at (140#(1 70 according to quality. The mills
are at work, though the stock Is not sufhctciit to keep
them constantly employed.
Salt The supply is improved by recent receipts,
though still limited. There is a very ac • • demand
»t $2 75#$3 per car load, and $2 50 In la. t e lots from
wharf.
Timbkb.—Since the rise in the river, timber has
been arriving freely, but mostly of email uimen&ioiiH.
The demand i- chiefly for large timber, *ai*able for
foreign market® and for mill purposes. Y. o quote:
