Dick Jerkina, of this place, was killed by a shot from a pistol in the hands of a young Mr. Kemper, the clerk of the State Comptroller. ? * Shot.—We are informed that on Tuesday 25th iusU, a soldier belonging to the detach ment of the 7th U- S. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aider- men of the city oi Savannah, in Council asaeiubled. and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same, That on and after the first day of January next, 1867, taxes and revenue for the support of the govern ment of the city of Savannah, and for the advantage aud benefit of the inhabitants thereof, shall Be as sessed, levied and raised at and after the following rate.-s tfiat is to say: L At the rate of one and a quarter per centum per annum on real estate in said city, according to the Viduatmn tor the ye*'rlS66, and snch subsequent valu ation for improvements as may be made in the y< 1807, or thereafter. 2. On all gross sales of every kind of goods, wares and mercUaudlze, including all sales by brokers and auctioneers, including lumber, timber, shingles and staves, aud excepting liquors, ope per cepcnm; sales of real estate, oue per centum; stocks and bonds, one- quarter of ope per centum* 4. On the amount ot all grpss sales of liquors, in cluding wiue, mult and spirituous liquors, whether at wholesale or retail, two per centum. 5. Ou all gross sales of cotton, one-tenth of one pet centum. 6. One per ceutum on all commissions or profits de rived from any business transactions by any mer chant, factor, auctioneer, broker, forwarding, ship ping or commission merchant, and one per centum on the value of a.l furniture, jewelry and plate worth over three hundred dollars, including pianos and all, other musical instruments; and one-fourth of ope per centum on the value of all solvent bonds, mortgages, judgments, notes, and other evidences of debt owned or controlled iu the city of Savannah, except bonds oi the city of gavaunfth. 7. One per centum per annum on all inoomes de rived from salaries, and the pursuit of any profession, faculty, trade or calling whatsoever, except income from real estate. 8. One per centum on gross receipts of any business transaction not included in the above and foregoing, and including all local insurance companies, gas companies, express c ompanies, cotton presses; all re ceipts tor lreight, and l«r passage money payable in this city; apd of all hotels aud restaprapts; and on all FOB Mon before the Mice Court. Such licenses and badges shall be issued bythe Clerk of Council, and tbe li censes shall be signed by the Mayor, attested by the Clerk, end have impressed on them the seal of the city. And it is hereby declared and ordained. That any shipmaster, captain, supercargo agent, or other offi cer of any ship or vessel who shall purchase a cargo or past of a cargo of timber, lumber, cotton, or any other produce except through a rarularly licensed commission merchant or broker, sMh be liable to a penally ol one hundred dollars. That all returns required by tlus ordinance >r real estate, Income and commissions shall be made uartfcrly, that is to say: on the first day of April, Ke first day of July, the first day of October, and the first day of January of each year, or within ten days thereafter, respectively, for the three months imme diately preceding such respective days, and that for gross soles, including freight and passage money, and gross receipts of all oomuiercial agencies, and gross receipts of all steamship, steamboat and vessel agen cies carried on by other than licensed commission merchants or brokers, returns shall be made between the first and tenth day of each month for the preceding month, beginning with tbe month of February next, eighteen hundred and aixty-suven. Coroner’s Inquest. t Harm Schrocder, the man who was shot on Chiist- em night, und who has been lingering ever since, • died \tsterdty morning at bis residence, corner ol Zttbly and Fahm streets. Dr. R. P. Myers, the Coro ner, k-iug informed of the death, summoned a jury and held the inquest at the above place. The evi den- e woB voluminous, but nothing, positive was elicited. From what we could learn tbo deceased, in company wiih a colored man named Joe Doe, had been on a spree, and at about 11 o'clock they started tor a house occupied bv mulatto prostitutes In Read range, near the canal. The colored man would not goto the hon^e with the deceased and lie went alone, knockiu;r at the door, a young man came out and threw him down the steps. He was then jumped upon, and a man in undress came out and fired a pistol, vhlch took effect in the back of the deceased. w One witness was examined who testified that the wirness. Doe, knew the name of the man who fired the •hot Doe was therefore put under bond. Dr. Thomas Smith held a post mortem examina- fcon, and found that deceased had died from internal hemorrhage, caused by a pistol ball. The jury rendered a verdict in accordance with ’•he tesiimony of the examining physician.
