DAILY NEWS AND HERALD
WEDNESDAY MOBNING. MAY 8. 1867.
Belle of the Ball.
Br MILKS O REILLY.
Oil, Lady of Kiu«a!
Dear of my heart.
With your teeth of cut pearl
Where the crimsou lips part;
Ami a bre-.ast o’er whose white hills
With beauty aglow,
The blue winleta womler
Like streams through the snow—
How proud is her glance,
Yet how kiudiy to all.
As they halt in the dance
For my ilelle ot the Ball!
My Lady of Kiusa!
How royal her grace.
Yet how bright and .how gentle
And winsome her face:
And her eyes large and blue,
A»e as *oft as a fawn’s.
And her smile is as genial
As midsummer dawns;
And her wealth of brown hair-r-
See its hues rise and full.
Golden, chestnut and fair—
Id my Belle of the Ball.
My Lady of Kinsa!
In silver and gr* en.
l;y ihe sceptre of beauty
A true Irish Queen;
Ah she raises her train,
For the dancers .ire tlect;
Hee how >>niall in their white
Satin bu kius her feet;
Oh. to be but caressed
By tbo white arms that fall
To the partner now blessed
By my Belle of the Ball!
My Lady of Kiusa !
'.I**?* clover that dips
To the scythe has no perfumu
To equal your l«p*;
And your little pink ears
Oi own an ivory neck
Which ihejewe.s of empire
Might \vo«Ibity deck;
And your voice is as bland
As I ho murmur of streams, .
And tbo touch or your hand
is (lie thrill of my drearua;
Ami 1 glow in e cb pti ao
As 1 bow lo the thrall
C)l my beauty oi Kinsa—
My Belle, of the Ba 1!

The sum involved is quite large.
A Singular Revelation.—Frod. Douglas
is the representative man ot his (colored) race.
He has more sense than Wilsoo, and moie
conservative virtue than the whole bench of
Radical bishops. He claims only what he
believes that right aDd justice demand for his
race, and be slauds on Horace Greeley's plat
form of “qualified negro suffrage and univci-
bul amnesty.” He believes that it would be
n ciiiue to punish any Southern man for be-
iug connected wi'h the war of secession, and
that on the question between the North and
the Sooth, logically considered, the South
hud tbe best of the argument on the Stute
rights theory. He despises the Puritanism
ut Yankee Radical politics as much as any
E relate uf Rome or High Churchman of Eng?
ind. His only bond of connection and sym
pathy with the Radical parly is what we have
slated, and his doctrine is “give the negro a
fair chance lo live and grow, and prosper by
his own euergies; and if he cannot do it, let
him go under as a cutnberer ot the ground.”
These views of the Black Dcuglus were
slated to us a few day9 ago Uy an intelligent
Northern gentleman who hud met and con
versed with him, and who describes him as
enlightened and comprehensive in views
and opinions fur beyond the one-ideaed
partisans that constitute the leadership of
the Radical party. He is described as a
mau who is only a negro in tbe color of his
skin,, but whiter than Sumner or Wilson in
the complexion of his intellect and heart.
Such is the black mau that the New York
Radicals would not allow tQ.sH iu * Slate
Convention. For -our part, we wish he
would take the advice of the Nciw York Ex
press, and confe South to tear away the
mask of hypocrisy which Wilson wean.
