opin to give trouble and embarrassment
thereafter. It is certaiuly the duty ot dia
tri. t commanders to study what the framers
ol the Reconstruction laws wanted to ex
press as much as what they do express, nud
to execute the laws according to that inter

The Town in Great DAng er of Con
flagration. ; i..
For several weeks past we have chronicled
4he frequent attempts of burglars and thieves
to enter the residences of our citizens aud to
break open store doors. Within the past
four weeks, not less than four attempts have
been made to break open as many stores;
and in that time the residences of two of our
citizens have been entered. In the first in
stance the burglar succeeded in stealing a
Hue gold watch and in the next (the same
night) the thief was discovered as ho was
about to enter, and was shot at. .
But the most alarming circumstances con
nected with these thieves occurred on Sun
day night last, in three distinct efforts to set
the town bn fire, iu three distinct localities,
by the turpentine balls, &c., which were
.discovered in time to prevent the intended
‘conflagration. Tbesc efforts, strange to say,
were made in the early part of the night,
between 10 and 12 o’clock.
Bnt a short time ago a young lady, just
about dusk, went to^close the window blinds
to her room, and ih -raising the sash to do
so, discovered a white man at her window,
standing on the gallery looking in as if sur
veying the premises prior to the night’s oper-
tious—his intention being, doubtless, to
commit burglary.
These nocturnal demonstrations admonish
our people to be upon their guard, and ever
on the alert—to see that their premisoa are
well secured agaiust the entrance of thieves
aud robbers. We have no doubt that the
recent operations in our town have been
conducted, if not performed by white men.
Similar operations are being carried out. in

On o,e 23d of December last Gon. Grant
telegraphed Geu. Pope as follows:
The constitutions adopted by conventions
now in session are not the laws of the States
until submitted to the people and ratified by
them. I do not see, therefore, bow you can
t-uloico laws enacted by them until so rati
fied.
Gen. Grant, January 10, telegraphed Gen.
Meade, approving the latter’s oonduct in re
moving the State Treasurer of Georgia for
not obeying the orders of the convention;
also, the following:
I would not advise interference with the
ehci ion ordered by the Atlanta Convention,
unless very satisfactory -reasons exist for
doing so. As District Commander, you will
hj perfectly justifiable in adopting as your
own order the stay laws proposed in the
constitutions to be submitted to the people
of Alabama aud Georgia.

in the breast with an arrow aud fell, perhaps
fainted. She was also badly cut across the
hand, and shot through the arm. She was
then scalped and b ft for dead. Fortunately
she recovered sufficiently to waicti the In

thinking there was possibly life remaining in
his victim, returned and gave the arrow,

If you are suffering or have suffered from
involuntary discharges, what effect does it
produce upon your general health ? Do you
feel weak, debilitated, easily tired ? Does a
little extra exertion produce palpitation of
tbe heart? Does your liver, or urinary or
gans, or your kidneys* frequently get out of
order? Is your urine sometimes thick,
milky, or flocky, or is it ropy on settling?
Or docs a thick scum rise to the top ? Or is
a sediment at the bottom after it bss stood
awhile? Do you have spells of short brac
ing or dyspepsia? Are your bowels consti
pated ? Do you have spells of fainting or
rushes of blood, to the head ? Is your mem-
impaired? Is your mind constantly
dwelling upon this subject? Do you feel
dull, listless, moping, tired of company, of
life ? Do you wish to be left alond, to get
away from everybody ? Does any little
thing make you start or jump ? Is your
sleep broken or restless! Is the lustre of
your eye as brilliant ? The bloom on yofir
cheek as bright ? Do you enjoy yourself-in
society as well ? Do you pursue your busi
ness with the same euergy ? Do you feel as
much confidence in yourself? Are, your
spirits dull and flagging, given to fits ol
melancholy ? If so, do not lay it to your
liver or dyspepsia. Have you restless nights?
Your back weak, your knees weak, and have
but little appetite, and you attribute to
dyspepsia or liver-complaint ?
Now, reader, self-abuse, venereal diseases
badly cured, and sexual excesses, are all ca
pable of producing a weakness of the gen
erative organs. The organs of generation,
when in perfect health, make the man. Did
yon ever think that those bold, defiant, en
ergetic, persevering, successful business men
aie always those whose generative organs
are in perfect health ? You never hear such
men complain of being melancholy, of- ner
vousness, of palpitation of the heart. They
are never afraid they cannot succeed in busi
ness; they don’t become sad and discour
aged; they are always polite aud pleasant in
the company of ladies, and look you and
ihem right in the face—none of your down-
east looks or any other meanness about
them. I do not mean those who keep the
organs inflamed by running to excess. These
will not dnly ruin their constitutions, but
also those they do business with or for. -

A Valuable and Powerful Fertilizer
For Cotton, Corn, Wheat, Peas, Garden Vegetables Ac.
IT IS COMPOSED OF INGREDIENTS EACH EC AND OF ITSELF A VIGOROUS
Fertilizing .Agency!
They are used in their PURE STATE, and combined ih the SUPER-PHOSPHATE
FREE FROM ADULTERATION, and, PERFECTLY SOLUBLE. The practical expe
rience given below of planter^ during the past season, fully establiah all the advan ges
ol&imed for this well known Fertilizer. . n r ■ ’-u.
Received tbe “Highest Premium” awarded to Fertilizers by the American Institute of
New York, held October, 1867. ! J . . j .
For full report, with analysis made by the Committee of the Iastitute, composed of Dr
C. E. Buck, Prof. J. G. KoDle, and other prominent Chemists, see Pamphlets.
The distinguishing feature of this Super-Phosphate) from other similar Fertilizers is that
all of its ingredients are of animal origin, and are either soluble in water, or in a condition
to quickly become soluble in Chs soil, aad be taken up by the crop.
Contains no inert or mineral materials.
The proper relative proportion of the ingredients in Mopes’* Super-Phosphate, to meet
the ; requirements of the Cotton crop on Georgia and Soul# Carolina soils, is folly proved
by the experience of Planters; who testify that whenever, they applied tbe to load •
noted for rusting Cotton, the disease was entirely corrected and a healthy, vigorous
growth produced, on the same land. • -
Peruvian Guano and other 1 Fertilizers have failed to secure a healthy growth^
