opposed to stirring up bad blood, between

Bloodt Affair.—A bloody and perhaps
fatal rencounter took place in Henry county ou
Friday nigbt, the 29th Iosif between Mr. Jas.
Hightower, .eofl of tho sheriff of that county,
and Mr. James Bowden. We get the following
version of the affair, and place it before Onr
readers: «
The parties named had a small difficulty last
summer, aud the old sore was opened 1 fly a few
words passedyit a meeting qe^eral jdays before
the unfortunate affair oecafred. In that con
versation Bowden told High flower that if he
would coohe over tb Mr. Burke's »*a-repeat
his assertion, that he would “cut him up. On
the night in question they met at Burke’s,
when Bowden requested an interview, which
was granted, They thon returned to the party
of friends, whereupon Bowmen commenced the
use of abusive language, and struck Hiffhtoyfer
a violent blow on the head*with a stick. High
tower then drew a pistol .and shot him through;
the hall entering the left .breast and glancing
to ward - bis'rider Mr. Hightower proffered the
cap of liia hoffe to obtain medfoai assistance,
and thee went .quietly homo. Bowden lies In
a precarious condition.’ Neither ‘ party has
been arrested. ‘ It is butr another ' deplorable
