State election Which opens oh Monday near.
By some tbe Jesuit oF that election seems to
regarded as of lens importance than that ot
the election for municipal officers, which it ie
expected will be shortly ordered. With those
entertaining this opiuion we entirely disa
gree. It is a grave mistake to suppose that
our city has not a deep and vital interest in
the election which is to determine whether
the State government is to be conlided to
wise, honest and patriotic Georgians, or is
to fall into the hands of a ruthless banditti,
composed ot vagrant adventurers, ignorant
negroes, and unprincipled renegades and
traitors, whose common aim is power for the
sake of plunder.
Let it be borne in mind by those who have
heretofore felt apelhetic iu reference to the
State election, reserving their efforts for the
straggle in which they feel that their owu

Prepare for the Selection. I
Men of Georgia have you done yonr whole
duty ? Remember you have but few more
days left to work in; bat in that short time
you may do much to save your Slate from
disgrace and ruin. Have you seen and con
versed with all of the colored men of your
acquaintance? Have yon pointed out to them
the great evils contained in this n ew Consti
tution ? Have you persuaded them to vote
with their real friends, against this Constitu
tion, which has been gotten up by foreign
ers for their own benefit, which taxes all of
the people of Georgia, both white and black,
for the benefit of a few vagrant adventurers
and native scalawags. See that every Con
servative voter is brought out and votes
early. Do not stop workiug until the last |
Conservative vote is put in. §ee that none j
vote who have not the right, and have
honest men appointed to see that the votts
are counted right. Remember that the pros
perity or tbe ruin of the country may depend
upon your exertions.
If all the men who have been promised
positions in case of Bullock’s election, should
demand a fulfillment of the obligation, it
would place twenty incumbents in every po
sition. The S'ate Road alone would have
some half dozen Superintendents, and a
B2ore of Transportation agents. All the
election, how important, that we should
have a Senate that would not “consent’’ to
allow hitn to inflict upon the people his in
famous appointments.
To guard the people’s money, to protect
their rights aud liberties, to thwart the de
signs ot a corrupt and mercenary faction,
how important that we should have a con
trolling majority of true meu in the House.
I For the honor aod credit of the Stale, for
the protection and advancement of every in
terest, social, political aod material, how im
portant that we should place at the helm of
State in this perilous crisis a true son of
Georgia.
Let every one then feel fully impressed
with the momentous importance of the cri
sis, and come up to the work with a resolute
determination to do all in his power to rescue
our noble old Commonwealth from threaten
ed degradation and ruin.
Let us defeat the villainous Constitution
if possible. At all events, let us carry the
Governor and the Legislature, and all will
yet be well. The accounts from the interior
and upper sections of the State are cheer
ing, aod if we do our duty on the seaboard,
success and deliverance are certain.
