toward the young lady to mention her name.
Bo h of the gentlemen had been paying at

been a bitter misunderstanding lor some

Charley: I admit the fact that we were

each other. I am willing to forget and for

and wish a hostile meeting between ns. I
will say to yon, Charley, that you must apol-

weapons, and I will be on hand. My friend,
Cant. J- W. Jack, will make the necessary

Personally 1 care nothing about the affair,
bui io other respects I do. Also, I had
hoped to avoid this, but you forced me to it.
Hoping to receive your reply soon, I am

Mr Harry A Lin.-day—Sir; Your note is

are duelling pistols—my distance is ten

All other necessary arrangements will be
made for me by Mr. Dick E Day huff.
I aoi, sir, very respecilnlly,
C. H. Leach.
Both are young men of about twenty-one
years, and are over six feet in height. The
writer conversed with Mr. Linsday at the
railroad bridge. He was a little nervous,
^4iut in good cli :er, quoted SUakespvire and
laughed gaily, regretted that he had uot put
on a cleuu shirt. He talked freely of the
combat, regretted its necessity, but was
auxious to have it over, so lie hurried up
the arrangements. Mr. Lcacti was more
reticent, cilmer, aud only conversed wnen he
/wu9 addressed.
The ground was stepped, and the parties
placed iu position. Mr. Dick Day huff, Mr.
Leacu's second, examined the person of Mr.
Lindsay to see that no weapons were on or
about his person. At the same time, Captain
Jitk, Mr. Lindsay’s second, examined Mr.
Leach tor the same purpose. The pistols
' were then handed to each. Mr. Lindsay ob
jected, saying they were not the kiud agreed
upon. The other was brought to him to

fashionable restaurants to dine, not tor.

the “lady” had remained in the station-

partially sober, she was taken to the Jef

sentenced to ten days' imprisonment'. She
was accordingly locked np in a cell, but it is
said when she became perfectly sober, and
to a realizing sense of her degraded position,
she drew forth her pietbonc pocket-book,
pad the fine and was released from con
finement. This woman, not yet 40 years of
a^e, was but. a tew short years ago a reign-

of respect to a family which has suffered no

The Captain then addre-sed the parties,
rehearsed the cause of the mceiiog, and a*k-

or both, should be considered a final .settle

put again. When there was no answer now,
the other second, Mr. Dayhuff said, “silence
gives consent.” “ Then,” said the Captain,
‘if yon maintain silence, a single shot shall
be complete satisfaction.” He then directed
them to turn their backs, and when be
counted “one,” “two,” they should turn
and aim, and at “ihree” they should fire.
Mr. Lindsay asked that the directions be
made plain. 'I hey were repeated slowly and
carefully, the parties standing in position.
After a few sec mds, the- counting began.
At “two’’ both stood erect, half turned, the

bright moon, and a haziness in the air that
prevented a close eciutiny of the parties,
but they appeared, as well as conld be seen
calm and determined. The spectators were
deeply excited, as everything indicated
latal shot for both.
In ten seconds the word “three” was pro
nounced distinctly by Captain Jack. Almost
simultaneously with the. word the pistol in
Mr. Leach’s hand was discharged, and there

The Prince and Princess of Wales in
Ireland.—Dublin, April 15, Evening.—The
fleet bearing the Prince and Princess of
Wales entered the bay this forenoon. Their
arrival was aunounoed by a royal sriute from
all the vessels in the harbor. The fleet came
to anchor off Kingstown shortly before noon,
and the Prince and Princess lauded. They
were rec ived by the Lord Lieu'enaul of
Ireland and the Marchioness of Abercoro,
acd conducted to a special train. ot cars in
rea Uoess to convey them to Dnblin. The
Lord Lieutenant was accompanied by the
officers of Stale, the commander-in-chief ot
the force-, and a large deputation of the
principal local authorities. A guard of honor
occupied the pier and lined the approach to
the railway station. A1 the wharves and
buildings commanding a view of the scene
were thronged with people, and the space
uear the station Was entirely filled by the
crowd, who cheered incessantly as the royal
party passed.
The truiu proceeded slowly to Dublin.—
When it arrived the Westland Bow
terminus of the road, the Prince aud
Princess and attendants alighted, and a
military guard of honor, under Maj. Geo
Cuuninghum, whs drawn up, forming a hol
low square. The mayor and members of
the corporalio i of Dubliu advanced and pre
sented an address of we ! c»me to the royal
visitors. All then entered carriages, aud a
procession was formed, which passed through
the prhuipal streets of the city to the
ca-tle.
The streets, windows and house-tops along
the route were densely crowded with specta
tors, who by their cheers aud cries mani
fested the wildest enthusiasm. The build
ings on the line of march were richly deco
rated with flags, flowers and tapestry. The
day was fine, and the display was a complete
success. Tue procession reached the castle
at 2 P. M., when the Prince and Princess
were conducted Co the state apartments pro
vided for their reception.
