VON PAY HORNING, MAY 11.
TO PUT HIM OUT OB HOT.
[An entirely or initial soloQuy, respectfully de&icatad to
{ the Eight Kepublciin United States Senators who
have one pArticle of consienee left.J
To fat him oat or not; that la the question:
Whether 'tl* better for ua to Mlffer
The whims and temper of that stubborn Andy,
Or to take arms against hia endless worries.
And by Impeachment end them? A vote-an
No more; 7ml by that word to »ay *e end
HiB vetoes and the thousand nameless things
He plagues us with,—’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. But then the step
itself is revolution!—aye, there’s the rub;
Yor to what dread reaction we may come
When we have shuffled oil our bauds this man,
Must give ua pause. There la the thought
Yhat puts us all in such a quandary;
1’or who could bear the Trioune’s whips and sooma,
Thud. Stevens’ lash, the jeers of all the ftump,
The pangs of farewell to the public ciib.
The insolence of Butler, and the spurns
An honest Senator must And at home,
When he himself might set all right at once
With a bare ‘-aye ?” Who would a moment pause
To bring in Johnson guilty—right or wrong—
But that the dread ol something after that:—
Au outraged nation crying out for vengeance
cm its destroyers—puzzles the will.
Anil makes us rather boar the ills we have
Tuan fly to others that we know not of ?
Thus, conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought;
And many who would strike our country dowu.
Killed with these thoughts their coward arms with
hold,
Scared at the word—“Reaction !’’

^piIIS IS ONE OF THE MOST PERFECT VEGETABLE ALTERATIVE and BLOOD
—If the Globe prints all the debates in the
House, it will soon come under the statute sup
pressing obscene publications.
—The Princess of Baccocchi has bequeath
ed all tier enormous estate to Napoleon’s young
Prince Imperial. Poor little fellow! It was a
Christian act to provide for him.
—An anti tobacco club in Pennsylvania have
gone to using camomile flowers as a substitute.
They just want to avoid the tax we suppose;
but oid Ben Butler has his cock-eye on them.
—Fashionable young ladies in New York are
in the habit oi taking an early canter around
Central Park, followed by a groom in velveteen
breeclses and top-boots.
—In California the Legislature has passed a
bill ottering a premium of five dollars a ton on
the first thousand tons of pig or blast iron pro
duced in that State from native ore.
—Iq England, for 1808, the public print
ing, it is estimated, will cost $1,750,000 in
gold, an iucrease of $00,000 over last year.
The London newspapers are complaining
that the amount is excessive.
—They are experimenting at Hartford with
considerable success in the new method of
curing the whooping cough by inhaling the
atmosphere of a gas house. Upward of three
hundred children are said to have been wholly
or partially relieved by this treatment.
—The Radicals are hard to please in Louis
iana. They petitioned for Sheridan’s removal,
denounced Hancock, aud are now grumbling at
Buchanan. The carpet-baggers make most of
the fuss, aided by such fellows as Hahn, who
gave flags to the “rebels.”
—A terrible case of human spontaneous
combustion, which resulted in death, is re
ported in Cleveland, Ohio. The name of the
man was Bremer. We learn that he drank,
on a wager, six large drinks of whiskey and
a pint oi stock ale, at a sitting. With blaz
ing face and starting eyes he reeled towards
a gas jet, in order to light his pipe, when the
noxious gases issuing from his mouth were
instantly ablaze, and the poor wretch wa9
soon beiug consumed by an inward fire.
—The public money is seldom mere use"
lesaly squandered than in a volume ju9t turn”
ed out at the government printing office. I 1
is a book of nine hundred and torty pages>
about the size of a large pulpit or family Bi
ble, bound in the highest style of Turkey
morocco, costing thirty-seven dollars a vol
ume. Its contents are the expressions of
condolence, abroad and at home, on the death
of Mr. Lincoln. It embaaces everything on
the subject, from Queen Victoria’s letter to
the resolutions of a town meeting in Boone
county, Missouri. Every Congressman has
been furnished with a copy, and it is said
that the amount expended upon it exceeds
$100,000.
Is It a Fair Question ?—Snooks wonders
where all the pillow-cases go to. He lays
that he never asked a girl what she was
making, when she was engaged in white
sewing, without having in answer, “A pil
low-case.” Yes, they have to “make shift”
as best they can and answer anything. A
gentleman once asked a young lady of his
acquaintance, “What are you making, Miss
Knapp V” “Knap-sack,” was the quick re
ply.
