latest is anticipated.
The annual
ns^ai-of Siyannah took place yesterday.
At half past two o’clock,
formed in line in front of the Firemen's Hall on
South Broad eireei, and Inspected by Hon. Msyor,
F. C. Anderson, Aldermen F. L. One and Henry
Brig&aui, Chief Engineer J. F. Waring and Oapt. fc.
J. White, Secretary of the Department, end Colonel
Crofton, Capt. Moose and Lient. 9 arson and Bard
of the United States army, who were invited to be
present.
The companies presented a fine appearance. Their
apparatus was in fine order and elicited the com
mendation of the inspecting officers.
After the inspection the companies passed in re
view before the Mayor, Aldermen end officers and
then marched through the city in the following or
der :
A dram corps followed by Axe Company No. 1, on*
der command of Oapt. Joe Davidson, about tixty
strong. Their uniform of red hats, white sbirte
trimmed with black, and white pants made quite a
pretty show.
Axe Company No. 2, in uniform of white shirts
trimmed with blae and red, white pants and red top
boots, came next, about twenty strong, under com
mand of Captain E. Taylor.
Captain Graham’s Company, known as Warren
Engine Company, No. l, was the next in line. The
Warrens were unable to tarn ont with their engine,
it being at a shop undergoing repairs, bat turned
out a floe set or men, thirty in number, clothed in
shirts or gray and red, and white pants. Over them
Wls borne a bine banner, on which was the name,
“Warren Institution,’’ and the date of organisation,
Sept. 8th, 1865.
The Pnlaskl Company, drawing their engtne and
hose red, came next. Their engine was ta9tefnlly
decorated, and the hose reel wrapped in the United
States flag. This Company turned out fifty men un
der their Captain, W. W. Jordan. Their uniform is
black hats, blue shirts, trimmed with red and white,
and white pants.
The Franklin Engine Company, No. 3, next In
line, paraded about thirty men under Captain 8
Proctor. They were in uniform of bine jackets,
trimmed with white, and white pants, and marched
under a banner bearing the inscription, “A. Lin'
coin—his name shall live f >rever with us.” The en
gine of this company was prettily decorated with
flowers and little flags.
List in line was the Columbia Bng'.ne Company,
No. 6. This Company p&ra led i a red coats, trimmed
with blue, and white pants, sixty strong, under Cap
tain James Burke. The members drew their engine
und hoBa carriage, which, with their neat decora
tions, presented an attractive appearance.
The variuuB Companies had flogs floating over
them or thair engines, and with the b.ill’ant uni
forms of the men and the decdtdtions of the engines
combined to form a scene which was very attractive,
and alec very creditable to the members of the De
partment.
Several Companies, from caus:s unknown to us,
failed to appear in line.
The Man Without an Umbrella got
thoroughly drenched yesterday morning, as he wea
rily wended his way homewards, at the witching
hour of half-past two o’clock, wiih the consciousness
of having got thettEws and Hbbald forms to press,
and that his own form was very tired. That was no
temporizing demonstration was that rain. It was no
splurge for effect, no brief shower, just to catch a few
grem ones, and let eff a little surplus water. It was
note ven Alexander Smith’s “terror-stricken’* rain,
Flinging itself wildly against the window-panes,
Imp oung shelter from the chasing wind.
No, it was a perfectly independent rain, with a clear
field, premier of the elements for the time, doing. its
best, ns if “working by the piece, “not wandering
here and there, or tangling np crosj-wise, but every
stream compering with its fellows for eminence in
volume and velocity. And right induslrlonsly did it
rain, darkening the morning and drenching the early
stirrers. The sun struggled out in • few fitful spells
of shining during the forenoon, bat the rain again
got Sway, though this time it ouly dallied and driz
zled briefly and Jut lely, just enough to be disagree)
b’.e, earning the thaaks alone of the nmbrelia-dealeis,
and of some to whose crops the moisture wUi be beu-
eficial—and Old Solus got f„ll control. Thank the
Lord for the rain as well as the sunshine, for we can
do without one as well as the other, and cannot live
without either.

L. Davis was the first name called, and it was an
swered to by a young man, who was charged with
being drunk and disorderly at the circus, and abusing
and resisting officers while in d scharge of their
duty. It appeared from the evidence and the state
ment of the prisoner that he possesied himself of
the belt and club of policeman Lee, and thus
equipped, attempted to pass into the circus m a po
liceman. in which attempt he sadly failed. Police-
j Lee told a tale which did not altogether tally
with the facts of the case, he having been in collu

purpose above mentioned. Davis was fined $20 and
costs, and Lee was placed under arrest.

Miss McCulloch returns her sincere thanks to the
teniiemen of Charleston who have so politely and
tlndiy tendered her a complimentary benefit. Not
attributing this anexpecud courtesy entirely to any
success she may have attained as an artiste, she is
too happy to believe that it emanates from the
friendly hearts of her brother Sooth Carol ini a ns
She therefore accepts the compllmeut, and ln re

the sweetest we have ever heard, while her transi
tions are among the most easy and natural imagina

management left nothing to be desired that can be
achieved by scdulons culture and natnral gifts. She
rendered the ’Last Rose of Summer’ with exquisite
taste, and was rapturoasiy encored. Wuh a form

Inquiry has been limited, and prices offered based
upon advices from New York and. Liverpool, end be-
low the demands of holders, who are still sanguine
of obtaining at least 30c for middling, while buyers
are shy at 24c. This difference is the best indication
ot the tone of the market.
The receipts to-day amount to 96 bales.

nearly the same figures. The stock of oats is light;

Rice.—The receipts of rough rice daring the past

40,601 bushels since the 1st of September. The stock
is light, there being only the equivalent of 1,260
