And with prouder eye we mark, to-d»y,

SHADOWS.
BY aEOBOE MOOBB.
When twilight everywhere releases
The prisoned shadows of the day.
From all queer odds and ends of places,
Then shadows gather in their play.
And strange the forms that are created
In this last glimmering of light.
By which the traveller, belated,
Is startled on his homeward flight.
Like ghosts, they swarm in all queer places,
in uncouth shapes now drawiug nigh,
With outlines of ramiliar faces
Which memory loves to linger by.
Then goblins of unheard-of horror
These shadows shape to human dread,
And toss weird arms in maddening sorrow,
Then take the forms of lovad ones dead.
They dance upon the floors and oeiling,
When the great home Are is low—
Tumbling, mingling, whirling, reeling.
Like ebbing waters in their flow;—
Making the shape of ail thingsknown
Fantastic to familiar view,
Tne fire-irons to great giants grown.
Toe very tongs a monster too.
The little child amazed, yet fearing
At an odd shadow of itself,—
E'en dear old grandma's cap appearing
A weird, fantastic little elf.
Long may the9e twilight shadows meet us
All o'er the world; where’er we roam,
These shadowy forms of loved ones greet us
With memories ever green of home.

The TURF, FIELD AND FARM Is as Imposing
and handsome in appearance as it is spirited, able
and interesting. It has brought to I he discussion ol
turf matters a moral tone hitherto wanting, and ut

men who are fond of horses and stock, and we re
joice in its success.—Buffalo Express.
b Its editorials are ably written, ani it generally
contains matter of home interest to Buff&loniana. It
is tepidly recommending itself to public favor —
Buffalo Courier.
The TURF. FIELD AND FARM is unquestlona
biy the best publication of its class In America, 11
