THE DYING INFANT.
Oh gira it back, untouched by Bin.
lietum it as ft came;
So lovely, innooent, and pare,
1 ask It in God's name.
If left on earth, Its ways to tread,
Would naught but flower* epring,
Hbouid thousand thistles mingle there
Could you remove the etlng ?
Id life a sparkliog fount of joy,
Bo bright and sweet a thing.
That we should kiss an angel here
its blessedness to sing ?
Kind Death will treat such tenderly,
He la their friend, not foe;
He snatches them from toil an d strife,
In God's own held to grow.
Oh yield It pe&oefully, and try
A Father's arms to see,
Embracing what He only lent
A moment's joy to be.
Savannah, May, 18ii8. E.
THU EAGLE.
SY TENNYSON.
He clasps the crag with booked hands;
Close to the sun iu lonely lands.
Kinged with the azure worlds, lie stands.
The wrinkled Hea beneath him crawls,
He watches from his lotty wads—
Then like a thunderbolt he tails!
The I’agle—A Parody.
With crooked claws be clasps a fence
Close to a hen roost—Gazing thence
He spies a mice what's got no sense.
The mice below cannot see him;
He wd teneth from his lofty limb,
Thun jumpeth down and grabbeth him 1
The difference, altho’ but faint,
1 wdl at once proceed to paint—
His eagle's wild—my eagle alnt!
