—The last words of President Bnchanan

—A sister of W. B. Astor has brought a
suit against him for properly valued at seve
ral millions.
—Mrs. Hill, of Iowa, has shocked the
moral sense of Titusville by advocating free
love in the streets of that town.
The last new drama is called “The List
Days ot Stantonius.” Act I, “stick;” act
II, “stuck;” act III, “cut stick.
—Canada is still oxcited over anticipated
Fenian raids, aud the preparations in New
York among the'Tehiana, it is said, indicate
that they are really in earnest.
—A negro girl in Memphis tried to kill her
father’s family by putting powdered glass in
a pot of vegetables, because she was not al

the Methodist Church, her
father being a Baptist.
—A desperate fight occurred near Meri
dian, Mississippi, a day or two ago, between
a negro aod a hog, in which both were kill
ed. °The negro wanted to kill the hog for
meat, but the latter refused to “see it.”
—In Memphis on Tuesday lait two men
bad a fight in a barber’s shop. They at
tacked each other with knives, whin the
person assailed drew a revolver, and shot bis
assailant through the arm. The ball then
struck a negro man named Edwin Davis, in
the forehead, killing him instantly.
—The Washington Star has reliable infor
mation that the sympathies of Minister
Adams are all against the Uepnblican party,
and that he takes a very despondent view of
the condition of public affairs in this coun
try, and has but little hope touching its near
future. He will travel iu Europe until alter
the Presidential election.
—Great excitement existed in Honduras
and Nicaragua, according to dispatches
dated May 28, on account of the renewal of
British pretensions to the ownership of the
Mosquito territory. The United States were
expected to interfere to prevent such claims.
—A lad twelve years old was accidentally
carried over the Housatonic Falls. The lii-
tle fellow proved himself a regular Sam
Patch. His plank fioatiog near a little
island, he jumped ou the dry land, aud when
rescued by a boat was chewing gum
quietly as an ox chews hi9 end.
