TUESDAY
DAYBBIAK.
Through roay dawns of Jane I go,
Again In the deepening sweetness part,
While all their raptures round me flow
And bubble freshly to my heart.
The broad blue mountains lirt their brows,
Barely to bath them in the blaze;
The bobolinks from silence rouse
And flash along melodious ways ;
And bid beneath the grasses, wet
With long carouse, a honeyed crew,
Anemone and violet,
Yet rollicking, are drunk with dew.
How soft the wind that blows my hair—
That steals the eong from off my Up,
And mounts in gladder tumult where
The murmurous branches bend and dip I
How proudly smiling on his lev*
The sun rides up the central blue,
While like the wing of summer's dove,
She changes to his ohanging view—
AM loveliness In every light,
Voluptuous beauty o'er her strewn,
A thing to lap the soul’s delight
While morning widens into noon.

—A drawing of one of the proposed
schemes for bridging the English chanuel is
ou exhibition in London. It involves the
construction of thirty-six pillars in the st a,
at the distance of half a mile, to tower one
hundred feet above the water.
—The citizens of Providence, R. I., are
subscribing to build a hundred thousand
dollar opera house. Mr. A. T. Stewart, of
New York, is said to be negotiatipg for the
First LJuiversalist meeting-bouse on West
minster street, for a site for a dry goods
house, which is to be a branch of his New
York establishment.
—The Washington Mills in Lawrence,
Mass., in the woollen department, are pro
ducing shawls, cassimeres, flannels, coatings,
etc., in large variety. The cotton mill is
running upon cambrics. Combined they
employ two thousand two hundred hands.
—A pair of infant’s shoes were lately dis
covered under the door-step of an old house
at Holmes’ Hole, where they have probably
lain about one hundred and twenty-five
years. They are very acutely peaked at the
toe, very wide in the shank and awfully thick
of sole.
—The Djminion of Canada, it is stated,
has adopted the following device for a new
national flag: "A white field, containing a
garland of autumnal leaves, bound with the
Order of the Garter, and surmounted with
an imperial crown, a beaver, and a number
of maple leaves in the centre.”
—We have now, nearly seventy thousand
Chinamen in this country; and in California
their numbers and growing wealth begin to
muke them respected. Iu 1863 Great Britain
shipped to Chiua and Japan nearly ten mil
lions in bullioD, while San Fraoclaco shipped
only four aud a quarter millions. In 1867
Great Britain shipped bat a million and a
third, while San Francisco alone shipped
over niae millions.
Forney confesses that so far the Demo
cratic party show admirable drill aud dis
cipline. This is true, and they will show
them to the end. It is not au easy party to
beat, as the Radioals will understand, since
they have been obliged to nominate as their
candidate for the Presidency a man who
never voted any but a Democratic ticket.—
