At the conclusion of the presentation speech there
was not a dry eye in the audience.
The (H) Ash-y member received the medal, and,
amid sobs occasioned by the honor conferred, at
tempted to reply, bat in vain, and burying his face in
his handkerchief, already moist from tears brought
by joy, faintly called upon his Cousin, jrho* alter a
futile attempt to appropriately respond, was fain to
call upon his Steward, who also made a failure, exou

As msn is only a ‘‘pendulum betwixt a smile and a

Tbe medal is about ten inches in diameter and a
quarter of an inch thick, ornamented profusely with

are the names of the crew of the Victoria, and in

was a card bearing the following inscription: “Pre

mayor’s Coart.
Hon. E. C. Anderson. Presiding.
Monday, June 29.
Mr. Karnes had the age upon Mr. Rose and wife.
The former was acausod some time ago of disorderly
conduct; maltreating witness ana his wife In their
house. The case has been postponed Lorn time to
time to get a witness for tbe defendant, Mr. Bose,
and who has not appeared npon the call of the case
for three terms. The case was dismissed npon pay
ment of costs, and Mr. Rose was fined -$3 for con
tempt.
Mary Jennings went in for sods and came ont
drnnk.
When women drink, thoy drink about
Three glasses straight, or whiskey stout.
Thus the party came to grief, and had to be car
ried to a place of security—$5 would have paid the
fine but the Clerk couldn't find $5, and Mary was
committed.
Charles Kobinson, colored, a foul effervessence of a
tool dlscrict, was up for stealing a pair of fowls from
witness iu the market. The following colloquy
passed between the Mayor and a witness: Do you
Know this boy ? Yes, sir. What does he do for
living: : He steals, sir. Did you ever see him steal ?
Yes, Bir, 1 saw him steal the chickens, and I have
seen him steal a ham. This statement clinched the
question, and the negro woman who had lost tbe
chickens being asked by tbe Mayor it the wished to
proseente the case. It was turned over to a magis
trate and the defendant was sent on.
bolomon Batiste, colored, was found drank and
lying In the street. Solomon is the same boy that
on a prior occasion went into the African Babtist
Church, stole tbe Bible, and did other enormities
desecrating the house of God. He was fined $8 for
this violation of peace and dignity.
Rose Collins, colored, charged with stealing fish
from witness in the market, was turned over to
magistrate. The prosecution not wishing to carry the
case so far Ross was discharged.
John Brown and Diok Klefe, colore^boys, were ar-
resrea «ma Ihnr ta men wnor «a
shown to have been stolen. Tney were the ’-pimps’
of a whiter hue, and the case was turned «ver to De
tective Wray lor investigation.
Ghsthsm Court of Ordinary.
Judge D. A. O’Eybne, Presiding.
This Court convened at eleven o’clock yesterday
to hear the arguments in the matter cf the estate
of James T. Patterson—an application of the cred
itors of the estate to show cause why the Executrix
should not give bond for the security of the estate,
tbe creditors alleging that the said Bxecntrlx has
removed property of the estate.
Major Lloyd, oonnsel for Mrs. Patterson, filed an
answer, stating that the lumber which was about to
be removed was under contract before Mr. Patter
son’s death, and the vessel also chartered to remove
it and was on its way to Darien where the lumber
was; that the p lue ton and ponies were removed be
cause there was no sale for them here, and the ponies
were ’eating off their heads’; that the Executrix had
acted under legal advice; that the Executrix had in
no way mismanaged the estate, but was endeavoring
to do all that would benefit it.
Means. Gnerard and Paine argued on the part of
the creditors, and at the close of their arguments the
Couit adjourned until eleven o’clock to-day, when
the argument of Mr. Lloyd will commence.

bun tale. The birds ol the air move by this impetus
in grneefal gyrations amidst the ambient oceans.
The bensts of forest, bill and plain, find life and
power through this vitaliz ng element. And man,
comprehensive embodiment of all elements of matter
in combination with the entity of tbe Alntighty, de-
veolope its fall powers, while woman, the last, best,
and greatest creation of God combines the full cul
mination of Its elements. By its powers, tbe emerald
verdure and genial bloom of spring greet the eje,
the succulent cornucopia of summer, pours lortn its

then follows its piping notes, and frigid fingers dos

them, Caching them their insignificance in the great
domain ol nature, and how less than an insect, or

Alas i how futile tha effort of tbe most brilliant go-

come, amidit the secret vaults of Nature and Nature’s
God. But titae admonishes that 1 must here rest the
farther consideutlon of the primary elemeot, and
descend the loag vista of changes under which Elec
tricity manifestsitaeii, and confine myself to m brief
synopsis of Animal Electricity.
The speaker then discussed the phenomena of
‘Animal Electricity,' saying that they are Mesme
rism, Animal Magnethm, Clairvoyance, Spirit Rap
ping or Spirit Oommunhs, and the toach doctors ol
the nineteenth century, oue of whose brilliant ex
ploits you have had in yo\ r midst not many weeks
back. These are the titln that travelling humbugs
and cfisrletans have given to a phenomenon under
Which they have practiced at manner of frauds and
impositions to swindle ajerehnous. community, an 1
yet there is a basis of troth underlying all tbis ver-
oage which It Is well fop everyman and woman ol
onr country to understand, the \dmitted history of
which lies with Frederick AnthonyiJesmer, a regular
graduate ol the Academy of Science of Vienna, who
first called the attention of the scientific world to
what he termed a new discovary, fowhich he gave
his own name, and by which he proofed an abnor
mal condition of the human structure whereby he
produced many startling phenomena.
Clairvoyance and its teachers were next touched
upon, and then spirit-rapping; and thoi, said ihe
speaker, after these have died away, we are startled
by the appearance in our commuaiiy of® Touch
Doctor, assuming to himself the Divine prerogatives
of oar gaviour. Parmit me to ask why these vharle-
tons succeed with their nefarious schemes ? The an
swer is plain and simple: there is a grain cf uu b
amidst their stupendous superstructure ol h\m-
bngery, and th ! s grain of truth is Animal £iec‘rie%,
whicn can be employed in producing a certain effect
npon the phytUfue, and through the physique a partial
control of uie mental. Tbis, doubness, is a stauling
announcement, yet a demonstrable one, which I kuld
readily establish with electrical apparatus,

Its secret magazines, and how employed, howsecuri

Tne speaker then stated that animal electricity was
in every human being, and gave nnmeions apt
illustrations, and then concluded his speech, which
was listened to attentively by all pzeaent.
