—Chin Tajao, San Tajen, Bur-Ling-Game
and the other Chinese look a banquet, and
saw a horse race at Jerome Park, on the
25th.
—Mr. Vf. Calhoun, a conductor on the
Union Pacific Railroad, has had twelve arrow
wounds, and has been twice scalped, yet sit
uations on the road ure in good demand.
—The first Japanese child born outside of
Japan lor the last ten centuries, was born
lately at London. Mr. and Mrs. Hamaikari
Sadakichi, members of an acrobatic troupe,
are the parents.
—There are one hundred and seventy-one
German papers in America, forty-six of them
dailies, but they work so unobtrusivelyJbat
their influence is hardly felt outside of that
nationality.
—Fanny Elisler is now fifty-seven years
old, having been born in Vienna in 1811.
She is said to have acquired a superfluous-
nesa of vulgar flesh, and limbs very unlike
those with which she pirouetted herself into
the affections and the pockets of the pub
lic.
—Two very respectable gentlemen, of
Auburn, New York, recently eloped, each
with the other’s wife, on the same train and
the same dark night. A recognition ensued
in tbe waiting room at Syracuse, au exchange
was effected, and there is no more division
in those households.
—Mrs. E. Musser, a Mormon wife, says
the Saints practice polygamy, not to pander
to unholy desires, but for tbe purpose of
multiplying offsprings, and, she asks, if a
sen or daughter is such a great treasure to a
man, would he not be correspondingly better
off if he possessed ten or twenty, or fifty of
them ?
—Authors have their peculiarities. Long
fellow can’t make a speech; Tennyson is
anything but the poet in his dress and habits;
tYushington Irwin had a mortal dislike to
the camera, and could seldom, if ever, be in
duced to sit for his picture. The picture of
him with which the public is most familiar,
representing him with his hand to his head,
is a copy of an oil portrait, said to be the
oniy picture ever made of him.
—Qneen Victoria’s daughter, the Princess
Louise, sent to the exhibition of tbe Royal
Academy, this year, a bust of her brother,
Priuce Arthur, of which Sir Francis Grunt
is reported to have said, “he bad no htoita-
tion in sayiDg the bust was a work of infinite
talent, an admirable likeness, and a produc
tion lull of refinement and taste. Tbe opin
ion of its merits he knew to be shared by all
tbe membeis of the Royal Academy.

be placed immediately on the inner edge of the curb,
and connected with the horizontal portions of tbe
framework: provided always, that nothing in this
ordinance or the one of which it is amendatory

tion of any awning or sign in sack manner as to In
terfere with tho convenience of persons passing un

That the Tax and Revenue Ordinance passed' In

That the Savannah, fckidsway and Seaboard Railroad
Company shall have tbe Tight, with horse railway
cars or carriages, to connect their line ot ‘railway
leading to and from the country with Drayton and
Whitaker streets. In Savannah, beginning at Auder-
son street, and running the line of said Drayton and
Whitaker streets to Bay street and connecting by
Bay street: provided the work of laying tbe track for
each earring* railway on Drayton street be com
menced, in good faith, within twelve months from
the date or the passing of this ordinance, and be
completed within eighteen months from the time
of euch passing; and that the work on Whita
ker street shall be commenced vithin six month*
after the passing of this ordinance, and finished
within twelve months after the date of this ordi
nance: And provided further, that the said work
ehall be done aa to gradings, crossings, and all other
things therewith connected, in the manner and on
tne terms prescribed in the ordinance for the estab
lishment or lines of street railways passed in Conn
ell on the first day ol Hny. in tbe year eighteen hun
dred and sixty-seven, and ihat all the rules, regula
tions and conditions cf said ordinance in relation to
the running ot cars, the rates of fare, and so forth,
shall be applicable to the grant oi authority haretj
made: And provided farther, that tbe 88id Compa
ny shall, before entering upon the said work or any
part thereof; enter into bond, with approved eecori-

alt snch term?, rules, regulations and conditions;
and farther, that it will every day a ter beginning to

Savannah shall have the same police jurisdic
tion within said city over the said Savan-
nab, Skidaway and Seaboard Railroad Com
pany, Its employees and agents, aa it would have
had over any company that might have been organ

And on this further express condition—that If here

togs to that portion of tho city cast of Price street
and South of Liberty Btreet, and aleo that portion oi
the city east of Wfct Broad Street, south of Gaston

day of July, 1967; and whereas, said provisions were,
by an ordinaiicffpessed m Conceit on the 2d day of
October, 1867,extended to the 1st dav of Janaary

proval, revision and control of the City Council
of Savannah, and on certain terms and condi
tions.
Section l. Tne Mayor and Aldermen of the city of
Savannah, in Council assembled, do hereby ordain.
That power Is hereby given to the uchnmiasf oners or
Pilotage for the Bar ot Tybee and River Savannah to
make rule* and regulations for the government of
the Harbor Master of Savannah, subject to the ap
proval, revision and control or the City Council of
Javannah; and that, upon the adoption of snch rules

same shall be the rules and. regulations for the vor-
eminent of said Harbor Blester, under toe direction
tion of said Commissioners of Pilotage, subject to
