This stalwart body of colored men paraded through
our streets jestrday. They were proceded by an
excellent drum and fife corp3, comprsed of members
of the Company. In passing the^JEWS and Herald

which com tesy we suppose belongs this Company to
to the Conmr/ative element.
A Universal flenefuctor.
Blessed in the memory of all true housewives will
ever be tho Inventor of the Sewing Machine. He is
a universal benefactor, who has made easy, pleasant
and an hundred fold profitable one of the most im
portant duties of woman—to sew. The choice of a
machine in this day of new patents and multiplied
improvements is, however, a question of great im
poitacce, and to many very difficult or settlement.
Every patent has its excellence-out for a real, genu
ine family machine—a time saVer, thread saver, labor
saver—the women of our home say, alter making trial
of one or two o her different kinds, “Give us the

O’Mahoney’s Patent Dray or Cart Sad
dle.—it is not generally known that Mr. John O’Ma
honey, an old and accomplished mechanic of Savan
nah, has received letters patent for a most valuable
invention of a Saddle for Dray and Cart Horses or
Mules. It is constructed on the most scientific prin
ciples, and will at onca convince any candid mind of
its great superiority over all other Inventions of the
kiud. It is self-adjusting to the back of the draught
horse or mule, uniform in its bearing, and preclnde B
the possibility of injury to the oaci.of the animal. It
is manufactured in (he most substantial and excellent
manaer, and is bound to have a wide sale throughout
the United States because of its acknowledged worth
and merits. We learn that the inventor ha* a num
ber of them for sale at bis shop on West Broad street,
n^ar South Broad, and all interested should, as an act
of humanity to their dray and cart animals, provide
themselves with O’Ma’ioney’s Saddle. The patentee
cantemplatea at aa early day to canvass the several
or a portion of the State?, and will sell rights to man
ufacturo under hit patent. Doubtless, the “Society
for the prevention of cruelty to animals,*' will favora-
bly'commend this invention ol Mr. John O’Ma
honey.
Mayor’* Court.
Hon. M. J. Ford, Mayor pro tern , Presiding-
Thursday, July 9.
The attendance upon yesterday morning’s levee
was slim, to the m mifest delight or reporters and to
the credit of morality.
An unfortunate who made his bed in the streets,
and who was perfectly unconscious of the fact, was
discharged, Laving been locked up all night.
Another Individual, a white m an , whoso native
tense should have taught him tho impropriety of
making the streets of the city a nuisance, was fined
five dollars.
Two colored individuals, “sparkfcts,” ware brought
•up for fighting m ihe street, and all about an ebony
- V f-nu* npoi -iaotn t u had net their affections.
Join Jonee interfered with the courting arrange*
nenu of Miles aponcer, the coquettish Dinah lead
ing b< .k of her sable admirers to suppose that each
individual was the happy mac. They met, in flamed
by thf.t str sgest of all passions, “love,” and mutual
criminations and rfcriminations followed. From
words they cam> to blows, when a policeman stepped
in and put a stop to the circus. Jones, i*elng the ag-
rca *or, was fined fiv<, dollars, and Spacer was dis
charged.
Georgia and Savannah Rifle Clubs competing lo* *& e
prize, and a rowing match between the boats “King
Cotton.” '’Veto.” and “Victoria." The dsy was
pleasant, and the crowd was in no way disappointed
for everything promised came off promptly and sue-
cesafally.
THE YACHT BACK.
The assembled guests spent the airlier patt of the
ilay ill ways Incidental to the--Lords oi Creation-
on festive occasions. At la«t. I* alf P 48t tw0 ° c - oolt '
the hour for the commencement ot the yacht nee,
arrived, and it was annonneed that the “Jane 1/ and
the “May Forrest" had heea entered for the race, the
first b, K. U. Kiriln aod the oiher by M. Y. Hender
son. Messrs Hone end Bigelow were declsred
judges; the boats took their etations opposite the
Verncn Honse, the signal was given, and both
moved off io admirable style. It had been agreed
that the rice should be tor six miles, and that the
“Msy Forrest” should have tour minutes the start.
The yacht? aa they swept down to the terminal signal
boat, a miie tuid a half distant, returned, went down
again and returned, maki.g the six miles, were
watched with eager interest, and considerable bet
ting ensued, those betting on the “Jane L“ loaing—
the “Bay Forrest" winning the race, coming In
thirty seconds ahead of her competitor.
THE RIFLE PRACTICE,
After the race, arrangements were made for the
rifle practice between the Georgia and Savannah
Rifle Clubs, aud by four o'clock everything was ready
Messrs. Waring Russell aud A. Goeble were ap
pointed Judges from the Georgia Club and Messrs
McPherson Berrien and Thomas Hunter, from the
Savannah Club. It was agreed that five members
should be selected from each Olub, and eachxnember
should be allowed five shots. Messrs. B. B. Ferrill,
J. P. White, N. Marion, Samuel Law aud Dr. J. D.
Fish were se'ected from the Savannah Club, and
Messrs. J. B. Sibley, Isaac Bussell, J. Hirshbaeh. H
C. Stephens and Fred. W. Clarke from the Georgia
Club, and the shooting commenced. The distance
was one hundred yards, and the prize a gold badge,
elliptical shaped, having engraved on the front a
man in banter's costume, leaning on a rifle.
When the shooting was concluded the jndgeB care
fully compared the shots, which had been marked
after each man fired. Borne little disagreement arose,
among the judges because of the nearness of the
shots, and tney recommended that there should be
another trial on some other day. An Lour or ao after
tois decision, the judges held another consultation,
and decided that the medal was won by the .Sa
vannah Rifle Club, and the badge was presented to
that Club without any formalities. Mr. B. B. Ferrill,
of the above mentioned Club, put a shot in the con-
tro of the target, and it was claimed that Mr. H. 0.
Stephens, i f the opposing Clnb, bad placed bis ball
immediately on top of Mr. Ferrill’s. It. was also
cla : med that the Georgia Club had missed the taraet
twice. The shooting by both Clubs was excellent.
THE b-jat rage

aud a few minutes after b the competing boats,
King Cotton," Veto aud Victoria, were pulled np
the starting point opposite the Vernon House. The
race was for a distance of a mile. The following
named judges were appointed:
Starting Judges—a. 2rcC. Duncan for the King
Cotton, Dr. W. U. Bullock for the Victoria and J. H.
Demand far the Veto.
Terminal Judges —W. L. Waithour for the King
Cotton, Dr. J. M. Johnson for the Victoria and Wm
Hone lor tho Veto.
The crews of the boita presented a jaunty appear

Everything being ready, at twenty-six minutes and
fifty seconds alter five o’clock the signal lor the start
was given, and splendid starts were made by air of
the boats, each of which contested earnestly for the
prize, whicu the King Cotton can led off, passing the
terminal plint fifteen seconds ahead ot the Victoria
and she five seconds ahead of the Veto.
A short time after the race the crew of the winning
boat was edited together, and Juage D. A. O’Byrne,
in a few appropriate remarks, presented the cup to
tho crew. Mr. A. McC. Duncan received it in behalf of
tho crew and happily responded to the remarks of
JudgeO'Byrne.
