F1U OAT MORNING. JULY 10..IMS.
LAMENT UF TBK SOD1U.
Ar from my natlTe land, loved South—
My wandering footsteps stray;
For trodden by the oppressor's foot,
Tiiou art held in ruthless swsy.
Thy daughters fair and matrons cb»» t0 »
From cherished homes are driven;
Thy sons are exiles from the l*nd,
Once loved by them like B*** ea « -
Oh! Father, who doth ali things well,
Incline Thy pitying osr;
Remove from power those tyrants Vile—
Our wrongs are hard to bear.
Poor beaten South, thy plaints are nought,
No people’s mourn thy fate;
Poland and Erin are bewailed,
Bat Thoa hast only hate.
Did ease and sordid gold alone.
Engross our every thought;
Excluding from our hardened hearts,
The God, “Who must be sought.”
In chastened spirit now we bow,
Lowly belore Thy Throne;
Relying on the holy words,
“Thy burden can be borne.”
As thon once led through wilderness.
Thy chosen people home;
So may Thou guide us through this mac3,
Never again to roam.

“NICK OF THIS WOODS”
Is the most remarkable and exciting story of the kind
that ever appeared, and 18 the Fountain head from
which myriads of Indian Tales have been derived,
«ome of the characters are nneqaalled in the whole
range of Fiction for a certain kind of weird, myste
rious interest that hangs around them. For instance,
the terrible Jibbenainosay, the “Spirit that walks,”
Bloody Nathan, the “Man of Peace,” and Roaring
Ralph Stachpolo, the “Ramping Tiger of the Roiling
Fork,” who was equally at home whether stealing
Red men's scalp3 or a pale face's horse. The desire
to mad a story of such intenbe interest, of coarse,
