Notwithstanding the extreme heat of Saturday and
Sunday, a suflliaeut quantity oi th'e ’‘-Ardent” was
dispensed by small dealer. t!b hi ike the usual Mon-
d «y session comparatively lively. Men forget, in their
Saturday reveries, that the Court opens on Monday
morning, and notwithstanding the {absence ol the
head of municipal law and order the Court exists in
allits plenary authority.
Charles Middleton jgnorsji this fact and took ad-,
vantage of the absence of Mayor Anderson and the
presence of sundry' dosss of lightning. to make his
bad at *-3prawl’s” Hotel. An enterprising Mr. P.
stumbled over Charles, who paid ttie usual hotel fee
and retired for .calua reflection, upon the proof) of
whiskey and the strength of law.

disadvantage. A close action brought reinforcements

decks and fined $6 and costs.

convened at Bethany Camp Uronnd, J sfferson coun
ty, G3,, on Thursday last, al 8 o'clock a-m.; Bev. J.
W. Hinton, P. E„ President. Bevs. J.S. Hopkins
' anil s. S. Sweet were appointed Secretaries. About
fifty delegates, representing every portion of the Dis-
trlct, were present.
Committees were appointed to consider the vatiom
' Interests of the Church and report to the meeting,
which was done on the last day of the session, the
. reports being substantially that the spiritual condi
tion of toe Church was not as encouraging as desired;
that »hc Sunday School interest was in a prosperous
I state; that the financial condition was not very en
couraging, ana that In some places the ministry bad
rtesived a very Inadequate support.
i The meeting determined to raise funds sufficient
to educate one yoang man for the ministry from the
Bi* trlct.
Bishop Pierce arrived on Friday morning and pre
sided ever the meeting to its close.
Tbe religious Interest of the meeting was of a
highly gratifying character.
On Sunday morning the Bishop preached a sermon
remarkable for Its spiritual power,! after which he
administered the sacrament of the Lord’s sapper to
a large nnmber of communicants. The power of the
H:ly Qhost came upon the people, and resembled
moie the outpouring or the Spirit on the day of Pen-
tlcost than anything else to which it can be compared.
■Alsrgs nnmber profeased conversion and were added
to the Church.
The following delegates were elected to the ensuing
Annual Conference: Bev. W. A. Hoyles, J. n. Saus-
sy.J.B. Hines and Bdward Bird. Alternates—Bev.
B. V. Johnson, Joseph B- Jones, Sen. Geo. p. Har
