No Meeting .—In response to a call for a
aeetiog of the stockholders of the steamer St.
Mary’s, a few stockholders met yesterday in the
rooms of the Merchant’s Exchange. A majority of

Pot Out.—The conductor of the outward
bound train of the Central Bailroad, yesterday morn
ing, found two black wenches in the ladies’ car. He
ordered them to go into the car appropriated for
their use, which they refused to do. The conductor,
vben the train reached Station No. 2 had them put.
off and left them there.
Bold Attempt at Robbeby.—Just aa the
moon went down yesterday morning, a yonng mem
ber ol the Bar residing on Sonth Broad street, was

Inauguration Ceremonies of the Savan
nah, Seaboard and Skldaway "
road.
Yesterday, the inauguration ceremonies of this
road took place near the tod-BSte on the White Bluff
Boad, and were witnessed by a large number of per
sons.
The crowd assembled beneath the, trees on Mr. Tey-,
nick’s place, and about 6 o’clock were requested by
Colonel W. R. Symons, Superintendent of the Roi
to accompaoy him to a pojit ih front of Mr. Tj
nick’s place, and about a hundred yards distant.
Arriving there, the crowd found any number of shov*
els stuck in the ground ready for use. Without any
formality the ground was broken,} ipOlonel W. M.
Wadlej, President of the Central Bailroad;
throwiog the first shovelful, followed by Colonel John
Screven, President of the Atlantic and Gulf Bailroad
Colonel J. Claghom, President, and Colonel W. R
Symons, Superintendent of the Savannah, Seuboard
and Skldaway Railroad; Alderman A. N. Miller, Dr.
B. D. Arnold and others. Just before the dirt throw
ing commenced, a child’s voice was heard, saying:
“Grand-pa, you can’t throw dirt.” All eyes were
turned in that direction, and ft was fotjind * that Uie
exclamation swas from Dr. Arnold’s grand son
‘ This remark seemed to stir up the doctor, xnd he
works alter having received announcement that the
enemy were advancing, and would be in ehootlng dis
tance in fifteen minutes, and we say that the Doc
tors can compete with any soldier. A few minutes

wearied, and the crowd were adjourned to the place

Here was foond a table laden with berverages sweet
and refreshing to the recently willing laborers. Some

toast to the S. S. S. and the 'A. & 0. B. B
tc which Ool. Screven replied.
The Wsshingtona Gome: band came upon the
ground at this point or the proceedings and dlscoura-
cd sweet music at intervale throngbontthe evening.
Col. W. B. sjnnona was c,Ued upon, and said that
he had strong hopes of the enccesa of the Savannah
Seaboard A Skldaway Biilroad, bat to carry it on
needed money, and stated that he was willing, and
hoped to receive a number of subscriptions to the

Doctor TBlchard D. Arnold wav called open
and responded, stating that thlrty-foiir ‘ yea;,,
before he had helped to break ground for
the great Central Bailroad,' and made many
striking allusions to the past successful career
of that road, and phropesiel success to that in the
future and also success to the Savannah, Seaboard,
and Skldaway Bailroad.
