A Good Yarn.
In tbe village of W lived a man who
had once been a Judge of tbe county, and
we!! known all over it by tbe name of Judge
L He kept a store and saw mill, and
was always sure to have tbe best of the bar
gain on bis side, by which be bad gained an
ample fortune, and some did not hesitate to
call him the biggest rascal in the world! He
waa very conoeiced withal, and used to brag
of bis business’ eapacity when any one was
near to listen. One rainy day, as quite a
number were seated aroand the stove, he be
gan as nsnal to tell of bis great bargains, and
at last wound up with tbe expression:
"Nobody has ever cheated me, and they
can’t neither.” ■* ,
"Judge,” said an old man'of the company,
"I’ve cheated you more thin you ever did
me." ~" ,
‘•How so?” said the Judge. '
"If you will promise you won’t go to law
about it, nor do anything, i’ll-tell yon, or
else I won't; you’re too much of a law cha
racter for me.”
‘•Let’s hear!” cried half a dozan voices at
once.
