T HE subscriber respectfully announces, to the public that he has recently opened, in this place, a School for the education of Young Ltidies, m which it is his aim to adapt, as far as possible, the whole course of instruction to the practical purposes of life. The Institution is therefore designed to be not only an elementary school of instruction, bat also ana chiefly a Seminary of the highest order, in which will be taught all the Literary, Scientific, and Ornamental branches essential to a substantial; ele gant, and well-regulated Female Education—in fine, “ Whatever exalts, embellishes, and renders life delight ful” A great portion of a life of 50 years has been de voted, by the Subscriber, to the important and * re sponsible business of instructing youth. It has long been his aim to raise the standard of Female educa tion in our country. To achieve this noble object, he is resolved to use still more indefatigable exer tions.—The Seminary is governed on the principle, that respect and affection are stronger motives to obedience in the minds of ingenuous youth, than ser vile fear; and while its internal discipline is imild and respectful, it is not the less exact and inflexible. Strict attention is paid to the moral and religious in struction of the pupils, and a correct and elevated deportment inculcated. To those who are desirous of learning Music, les sons will be given on the Harp, and Piano Forte, by Mr. Gonekc. Athens presents advantages not surpassed, per haps not equalled, by any in the Southern country. The place is known to be remarkably healthy, is sufficiently central for convenience, contains a very moral, enlightened, and polished society; and being the seat of the University of the State, is peculiarly favourable for such an Institution as has now been commenced, both from the habits of study prevalent here, the literary facilities afforded, and the incen tives constantly presented to stimulate the youthful mind to every exertion necessary to the attainment of excellence. j- The terms of Tuition are from 4 to 6 dollais i>er quarter, exclusive of Music, &c.
