BOATWRIGHT & NATHANS’
COTTON PRESS.
T UP. subscriber having added several improvements
to the above Press, now considers it perfect, and
offers to the public the right to build Presses, or to
build them himself, in such a manner as to warrant tlmm
to perform to the full extent of Ids recommendation of
them. With this, two good hands can pack three hun
dred and ten lbs. of Cotton in 4 yarda of Bagging; and
after the bale is sewed and corded, the follower can h*
raised in three minutes, so as to be again ready for tho
introduction of Cotton into the packing-box. A bale
can be packed with ease in forty minutes, by a good act
of hands.
The effect produced by this machine, is immense—
by a careful calculation, it is found that the advaidegetf
gained by its uso u three hundred and two, h one.
Thus a man whose power, or weight is 150 Ihv. will
produce a presume equal to 45,>300 Iba. while the loss
by friction is trilling, compared with what takes place
iii tlio uso of the ordinary screw Press. It iB not liable
to accident or injury, but it is an essential advantage,
that in all such rases, it can be repaired by the means
thutarc within tho immediate reac h of every planter.
It can be easily put under cover, either in a gin-house
or under a shed by it, and it may be used in any wet*
ther.
One of the above named presses has recently been
erected on the plantation of Thomas Hancock, Esq.
of Clark county, loan examination of which, the a? ten-*
tion of the public in invited for satisfactory information
respecting the utility and advantage of the improve
ment. Several others have also been erected in JefTert
son county. Among them, one on the plantation of Col.
John A. Cobb of this place. Persona desiioua of pur*
chasing rights or having a press put up, are respectfully
referred for a knowledge ot the tern a, £c. to Col. Cobb,
who is authorized to act aa agent for the subscriber.
