Messrs Editors.—I have just seen art article in the

with my remarks on the same H.is'over. the signa

pose on the subject of coin- But if ho had ended by
saying he was no calculator, nor knows any tiling about
the standard worth of Gold by the carat, he would de
serve some credit for his candor. He says he “ has ta
ken the trouule to haven piece of coin; purporting to
be worth $10, assayed attne Mint. It was found to be
but 22| carats fine.” Now reckon again.—Tho $10
piece I have estimated at 96 cents per dwt.—lie at 22J
carat* fine—value $9 39—“a trifle”:.-“fcorisequently
worth a trifle morn than Georgia gold dust.” And an
other strange calculation,-—'“ 9 38 cents, giving me a
p r ofit of about 7 per cent.” when it is well known that
the buyers have to give from H7j (the toWest) to 90
cents per dwt. at the mines, which is more than 22 ca-

The heavy rains in England and Scotland have done'

before the next regular session.

snke. and that of my friends and creditors. I
have, or had in Georgia, at my leaving there,
outstanding claims nud effects to the amount
